I've tried most of the major ISPs so here's my 2c.
If you're gaming only at night, I'd recommend OpenWeb GamerKing special. They have amazing speeds and ping...
after hours.
If you are gaming at all hours (sometimes during day, sometimes at night), then I'd recommend staying away from OpenWeb entirely. Their speeds during business hours is roughly as fast as a rock going uphill (unless you get the Business account, but then you might as well go for another ISP).
If you like downloading and playing games, avoid WebAfrica. Their star rating system can really screw you over. I downloaded 1 big file over 2 hours, and have been stuck on 3-stars (which is basically 'low'-priority on their network) for more than 8 days now. Needless to say, gaming pings are horrendous and downloads
rarely spike to 400Kbps. And I haven't even used the account since then because I swapped over to another ISP...
I used to be on Mweb, and they had amazing pings to Dota 2 servers. I believe it was ~20ms regularly. I left because my 1Mb account got throttled when I exceeded their 100Gb threshold :<.
I'm currently on Afrihost, so I can give you a more accurate description of my pings. To:
- the Americas , I get ~260ms (the best I've seen out of all major ISPs (average is ~270ms), tested on WildStar servers which I believe is in California)
- EU I get ~170ms (average ping for EU Dota 2 servers, Luxembourg)
- JHB I get ~40ms (average ping for local Dota 2 which I'm assuming is in JHB, and BF4 servers in JHB)
- CPT (where I stay) I get ~13ms (which is good for BF4 servers in CPT)
EDIT: I'm on an Afrihost 4mb Home Uncapped. I don't think the 2mb Home Uncapped will differ that much in pings.
