Hi

I currently have Vodacom HSDPA and want to convert to Adsl and I'm wondering if there is any deals that come up to under R300 ?

Thanks

What does shaped dsl mean? How do they compare to mweb and telkom?

Search the forum if you need to know something, if you don't find it, ask the question.

Shaped accounts are accounts where HTTP and POP3 traffic take the priority. This means that shaped accounts aren't geared towards File Sharing or the likes.

Telkom and Mweb have shaped and unshaped accounts, unshaped is more costly and will be useful for Online Gaming or even VOIP like Skype etc. and P2P.

I've got a shaped account and it's fine for my needs, shaping is more lenient after 18:00 - 8:00 the following day on weekdays and no Shaping on Saturdays and Sundays.. This is only for NNTP though, don't know if it's the same for P2P or Bittorrent.

Google is your friend ;)

I assume you want that R300 to include ADSL line rental? Not just bandwidth?

Webafrica are decent, but Sainet.co.za are cheaper - you get the same thing. They have 384kbps ADSL line rental + 3GB SAIX cap for R279 per month. You only get a 2GB account from Webafrica for that price.

IMO there isn't much point in getting something faster than 384kbps if your cap is only 3GB or less anyway. It's fast enough for browsing and small downloads.

Don't bother getting "unshaped" ADSL unless you want to play video games on overseas servers (like World of Warcraft, or something) or you're going to be using lots of P2P. (Which you won't be with a 3GB cap. Heh.)

Anyone know if Nasua is any good, I see they have all inclusive 1Gb 384 adsl for something like R139.

I think I should take some time an update that thread this weekend maybe. Make sure new prices and things are in there :)

OpenWeb, WebAfrica, TelkomInternet. Those are the only ISP I stand by. Also Cybersmart for lower budgets.

So you don't think nashua is a good service provider. Not even at R139 1gig line rental included

I dont know Nashua Broadbands service levels but yeah that deal is good, however I did read about some questionable terms and conditions, I cant remember what it was.

However yeah Nashua Broadband can be trusted :) That price is decent. I would however of still gone for Cybersmart R30 more for the same thing, just that ive dealth with and have had friends deal with them more often than Nashua. Have not heard from one person in real life (not online) that has dealt with them.

However saving R30 a month for a price sensitive customer it def makes Nashua worth a look into. :)
