Which ISP should I choose?

Hi there

I don't know if anyone in the know is still reading this thread but I want to upgrade my iBurst connection to something that will give me a higher speed and more broadband. I see that Screamer Telecoms is offering an uncapped WiMax 256Kbps connection in my area, Edenvale, at R1,099. Is anyone using this service and is this the full price or are there line fees, etc like ADSL?

Update re: SAINET

@SAINET
Look at the door. See the door. Now USE it for crying out loud and go away!

Seems like sainet got greedy overnight and hiked their prices with like +-30%. Quite nice of them - no notice, nada! :D

Unless this is an error on their side, this will be the end of what was a rather good relationship.

Hey all wanne post something silly , does anyone have a account i could use my international has been capped and i cant play my HLDM - Just trying ??? PM me if there is someone THX

ADSL

I really sound a bit dof here but would appreciate some guidance. I own a small inbound Tour Broker/Operator. Our markets are the UK,US, Australia and Europe. At the moment our connection is via Vodacom 3G/HSDPA. Contract (2Gig) due for renewal 1 January. Would like to consider going to DSL with decent speed. At the moment the VC contract is R449 and then we still pay our normal Telkom telephone business line rental etc. We need at least 3Gig per month and I wouldnt like to go below 512kbps or better.

I know nothing about ADSL - have read through the posts and I am still a bit confused (I did say I was dof !) We receive and send a lot of emails and occasionally download hi res images of lodges etc. - as well as doing a lot of research on the web. We are apparently able to get ADSL here (the new optic fibre runs past the front of our house.)

And what is your question? What would you like to know?
I guess its questions like what is the diff between Shaped and Unshaped.
Does one have to sign a contract?
What sort of ADSL package would be best suited for our needs?
Any particular ISP?

Many thanks,

Hey killer1973, welcome to the forums!

JUst checked out the site, nice looking page actually. This would be the first time I have heard of the name WebOnline.

I had a look at their prices and they are rather average on the ADSL connectivity side beaten by others in certain ranges. How many gigabytes of data were you planning to buy from them?

3GB for R179 is still slightly high if with TelkomInternet a 2GB account for R149 gets you get you between 3GB and 3.5GB with another 20GB of local if you wanted to use it after your cap.

10GB from WebOnline is R599, WebAfrica offer that for R490 so as you can see not the cheapest around, but it may depend what package you are going for.

I would love to hear from anyone using WebOnline though so they may tell us what the service level is like etc.

HI MrG
I'm just wondering what Uncapped solution on ADSL would MrG recommend. I've seen openwebs express november special for 1699, looked at Skyw@y's express for 2499, and finally webafrica's for 2499. I'm really tempted to take on openweb's offer but i've been reading quite alot abouth their poor service delivery, I'm worried.
My current ADSL connection from telkom is 4mbits and all the Uncapped offerings are limited to 1024k, is this just due to telkoms rollout of 4mbit in some areas, and will I be able to utilise the full 4mbits should I take on the Uncapped 1024k form any ISP.
My current internet bill averages at about R2000 including ADSL line rental from telkom.
Also I have noticed discoveries new R44/GB internet, I'm tempted to take 30GB from the at R1320 per month as it probably what my average usage per month would amount to.
Finally I'd just like to know is there any real difference in the IS and SAIX backbones. I am using Mweb and telkom both are SAIX and I haven't seem to be having any issues at all, apart from the fact that It takes ages to get a connection on the SAIX news server.
Thanks in anticipation

Try Axxess - R799.00 for Express.

Hey guys,
I convinced my dad that a 3gb cap shared between his work and home is not enough. He uses on average 5gb per month but only because he limits his internet use alot. I would think that it would be near 7gb if he let loose. He has a 512kb line at work and at home. Currently he is with mweb but obviously they are very expensive and so I have looked around for alternatives. He doesn't want to sign a contract because he is interested in neotel's uncapped deal when they launch here in stellenbosch. Axxess has a 6gb cap for R359 which at the moment seems to be the best deal I can find. He is fine with shaped dsl btw. Is there anything you guys would recommend?

Hi there, i have recently gone with Telkom do broadband level 3. should i go with the modem they provide, billion 800 vgt for R1400 (im not going on a contract with them) or can you reccommend a better modem for a similar price??

Hi MrG, on the first page, it states that Cybersmart is SAIX... I don't think they are because when I use SASA ADSL Stats Analyser (Which is for checking SAIX bandwidth usage), I am unable to get any usage records at all.

Looking at traceroute output of cybersmart traffic I would agree with you. They switched in December. The new service is slow, lots of packet loss and generally no longer worthwhile.

See my finding here, http://mybroadband.co.za/vb/showthread.php?t=123505&page=8

Hi All

Cancelling Cybersmart end of Jan...

Need STABLE and RELIABLE connection for around R300-R400 a month with AFFORDABLE top-up options.

ANY recommendations from current subscribers?
