Which ISP should I choose?

I mean everybody has an off-day now and then. And in this case I can fully understand Keoma becoming a bit angry. Customer complains but doesn't hand out any relevant details, not even their username. How stupid is that please? You expect Keoma or one of his techies to wield the magic 8-ball or what? Also everybody knows that a slow connection can have lots of reasons, mostly it's coser to home than you think. Always suspect Telkom's dslam first before taking on the IP in the next step.

no this is unprofessional behavior, there is NEVER any excuse to treat your customers like dirt, especially for something so trivial. if they cant exercise self constraint, they are in the wrong field

Well at least your not locked into a Vodacom contract.

So its OpenWebs loss simply (as it appears you have) move to another ISP, personally I suggest WebAfrica.

:wtf:Who the heck does this guy think he is, responding to his own client in such a disgusting manner. Its even worse then the Vodacom service I have grown so use to.

PS: ISPs, it appears that these days the way to keep clients is based on service, no longer prices and you don't have contracts to use as escape goats for such bad service! :D
PS: Check your client listings for this guys e-mail address, then you can find his account. Gees... its not like every time I mail my ISP I send my username and password.

I can't seem to find the article on the cheapest uncapped so I just want to confirm.

After fighting for 2 years with Telkom, they finally sorted our infrastructure out & I will be getting a line installed.

Should I give Mweb a try first & see what its like? I know some guys think its cr@ppy but I read more positive stuff than negative so I think I should try it first. Any other places to consider?

Recently, we had a bit of trouble with .....

That reminds me of an email I got from Sadam Hussain a while back.

Hello,

I can sing a song for you? Or I can get some chemical weapons from you which will perhaps assist me in finding the problem?

Ohhh, a wild guess, but perhaps a Nuke would be a good start?

Strange how everything on the internet must be true.

Recently, we had a bit of trouble with Openweb. Our 4MB uncapped line was performing very badly!!! 30kb/s at 10 o’clock at night.... So we mailed them to ask what is going on and got the following sarcastic, snotty response:

See Keoma's response:
http://mybroadband.co.za/vb/showthr...ncapped-R299&p=4181116&viewfull=1#post4181116

It is extremely shocking. What is even more shocking is the fact that folks have gone so far out of their way to invent new ways to show OpenWeb in a bad light.

I have never written such a response to my clients. It is sad that the creators of the post only have a 1 post count, yet he is widely trusted to be a source of the truth.

My clients will confirm that I always try and assist where I can, and in every way I can to resolve any problem they might have. Sarcasm is certainly not how OpenWeb does business.

Need a little more help choosing a broadband providor

Eish now I am confused:sick: I have been using an MTN modem mostly when I travel and sometimes at home. I would now like to get a connection at home but does not really understand the sticky even though it makes for fascinating reading!

What would give me the same experience as my MTN modem? I dont understand local only, uncapped capped etc

I surf the net a lot, this site and a lot of overseas forums. Do banking, not a lot of downloads like movies although occasionally I will download an MP3.

I dont have a Telkom line as they left a sour taste in my mouth about 20 years ago and I have not trusted the brand since!
I would hate it if my speed drops because I have reached a cap (I think its called a cap?)

Could someone please help a data speak novice :erm:

Which ISP to choose?

Hi knowledgeable folks of myBB.

I'm looking to change ISP's from telkom... go figure.
I primarily use my internet for gaming and streaming video (although the odd torrent makes an appearance).
My current usage is pretty low, go through about 5-6gb a month, mainly due to game updates (I'm looking at you BFBC2). And im on a 384kbps line. This has been fine for me so far, so not really interested in upgrading.

My question is, what is my best option for +-R400 (incl. line rental)?
My own research seems to suggest Web Africa is the best value for money. Is this true?

Thanks in advance :)

Doesn't that lock you into a contract? I'm not looking to be locked into any contract in the constantly changing world of RSA bandwidth offerings...

Nice. I think at the end of the day we are all going to go back to Telkom. They just needed a kick in the butt from other ISPs to step their game up.

Too true - I've got uncapped with MWEB and two months ago got them to take my ADSL line rental over from Telkom to save a small amount of money. Worst decision of my life!

I am moving office premises literally to the unit next door, and because my ADSL line rental is now with MWEB, Telkom won't send a guy out here to handle the move (even though my phone line is with them). I had to get hold of MWEB to speak to Telkom for me, and getting hold of the correct department at Mweb was virtually impossible! I was misinformed, sent from person to person at the call centre, and finally promised Telkom would send someone out here last week.

Now I've just found out the real procedure: You basically have to have your mweb ADSL line rental contract cancelled, wait 15 working days until telkom take it over, then PHONE TELKOM YOURSELF and wait for a technician to come move the line, and then finally cancel your Telkom line rental and migrate back to Mweb! What an effing dogshow!

Hi there!
So i've been on Neotel lite for the past two years, and thank goodness my contract is finished (slower than dial up!). I'm jsut getting my phone line sorted and have started looking for a reasonable adsl package. I have signed my boyfriend up for cybersmart, and thats pretty good, but he uses it purely for browsing, I want slightly more as i do a bit of torrents as well maybe 10-15gb a month?
I have checked all the threads on here and have noticed alot of people aren't happy with Mweb? Which other ISP can you guys recommend to me?? I've been looking at Mweb, Cybersmart, Openweb and webafrica? I'm in two minds because of some of the reviews??
Purely for downloading and browsing. ill stick to 384 line and something for about R400 a month incl adsl line rental. Is it better to get a complete package or get line rental from telkom and data from ISP?

PLease help!!!

Thank you!

With the Titan Deal (say 384k)

You still need to pay Telkom R 135/Month + R 299/Month to WebAfrica (15GB @ 384kb) = R434

Am I correct in saying thats ALL costs included?

Am I also right in saying that the above deal is the best for someone who will not use more than 15GB/Month?

yip - R 135 odd for the voice line rental + voice calls made of course...
