I'm currently with Telkom internet 2mbs uncapped and it is pathetic! i can't download anything my speed test brings up between 30-70kbs downloads, YouTube takes forever in 240p. I have checked and my area supports 4mb!?

So i was wondering which is the best ISP around for a 2mbs uncapped. I'm mainly looking at Afrihost, Webafrica and Mweb.

Can anyone please help me...

Afrihost if you would like to be throttled at a later stage.
Openweb for unthrottledness and every weekend unshapedness ;-)

Get yourself a free Afrihost 1GB account and first see how it works for you.

@ Cameronkk Come on buddy the problem comes in when you get into high downloads. Its so easy to have a fast 1 gig account

Hi there,
I am on an Afrihost 1GB unshaped business account for home use and I have no issues.
3 people in the house are active generally 24 hours a day and we are happy with the speed and the response when we need to call the call centre which is very seldom.

Regards

Tim

Sorry to hijack the thread, but who is the most affordable 10Mb ISP?
We push around 300Gb a month, so any suggestions?

okay so i'm looking at getting either the Openweb standard uncapped 2mb with a Telkom line OR and Afrihost 2mb uncapped bundle including the line. My current problem is that i am with Telkom and their service is terrible will this continue even if i go to Openweb because of Telkom's line that i will be still renting.

Hey,
I've tested out Afrihost, Axxess (both on MTN backbone), Plugg (IS retail), FNB Connect. Used trial accounts on all, which I highly recommend doing. Very very happy with Afrihost so I'm going with them. Axxess is equally good however more expensive. Plugg is also good, but marginally higher pings. FNB Connect (which I get free) is ok - some times on par with the others, and at other times pretty much like Telkom - rubbish. Anyway it's free so no big complaints. I've chosen Afrihost for my capped needs.

The car on the showroom floor is perfect! (Trial account) Wait until you get to 100 Gb's of data downloaded then see what kind of shaping you end up with. I don't believe in trial accounts because they are NOT a reflection of the real thing.

full agree. trail accounts are not real accounts or a real reflection. its just to lure you and rob you then blind.

read mybb. and decide. and if you dont like an isp, simply move on to the next.

or go with openweb. just not the "specials"...

Openweb. Have recommended them to 6 different people and all are very pleased

Are you still experiencing problems on your Telkom Internet account?

We made some big changes last weekend, to address some requirements which were found to not be working in mid-February. Unfortunately, changes like this can have unintended, unforseen, and impossible to test consequences, which we have been addressing during the week. By Thursday morning, most issues should have been resolved, but we did find that a subset of customers were impacted by another issue until Friday evening.

We believe that almost all issues were resolved by early Saturday morning, except one issue that remains (high international gaming latency), which we hope to address tonight.

From my own experience, and the reports of most other users here, video streaming etc. should be good. I personally have no buffering on 360p youtube, many 480p videos play without buffering or minimal buffering, and some well-optimised 720p videos also manage good playback (on my personal 2Mbps TI uncapped).

If it is not fixed for you, I would appreciate it if you could PM me your TI username.

(If a speedtest to the Rosebank SAIX speedtest server on TI doesn't give you more than 1.6Mbps now, I would suspect a DSLAM problem)
