Acer® Travelmate Series Notebook: TM5742G - Intel® Core i5 480M

Or

GIGABYTE® Q2532 Notebook: Intel® Core™ i5 2410M 2.30GHz

Thanks, same price but not sure which is the better option.

The 480M is clocked at 2.66Ghz, the 2310M 2.3Ghz.

So it's up to you.

Seems Acer may be the better machine or do you disagree?

I didn't look into the specs of the laptops, just the CPU, but the new Acer's are very well built, although not Sexy :p

Very similar laptops, but the Gigabyte sports USB 3.0 and Blu-Ray drive whereas the Acer doesn't, however, the Gigabytes CPU runs at a slightly lower clock speed than the Acer (2.66GHz vs 2.30GHz), but I doubt you'd really notice the difference.

It depends on what you use your laptop for I guess.

Although I am an Acer fan (I have a 5820TG atm) I'd go with what teraside said. USB 3.0 and Blu-Ray.

What are you going to use it for?

Provide linkys to the two so we can have a better look see.

According to Rectron, the neither has Blu Ray.

I like the Acer because is has 1X4GB Ram, which means you can add another 4GB later.

The LED Back-lit screen is also a plus.

You do realise that the 2310M is a new Sandy Bridge CPU? It should be significantly faster that the 480M.

I only saw it now, thanks for pointing it out.

I have a gigabyte and its a piece of ****, though rectron to my surprise, have only given good service in sorting out the various issues.
