Now that I have my line I just need to get router - I want to connect my computers via a smoothwall box, but using bridging as described here so that other computers can also connect from outside my network.

What modems would support this and would work with smoothwall? Thanks ;)

There are quite a few of them out there, but just be carefull, some of them cause alot of disconnecitons!

I got a smoothwall box, never drops the line, very steady and the built in web proxy speeds up sites you browse regularly alot. very easy and intuitive interface. Wont run my home network without one anymore.

are you using the billion 5102?

5102 or 5102s

You can either use the Billion 5102 or 5102s. Only difference is that the 5102 cost about R100+- more and it has got 4 ethernet ports. So im guessing for what you want to use it will be sufficient.

Netgear DG632. Actually the DG834 can do bridging too, but the option isn't linked in the web interface, you have to type in the URL manually. It's posted elsewhere on these forums.

No idea about smoothwall but I setup a DG632 on IP-COP 1.4 shortly after 1.4 came out and I haven't had to touch it since then except to load the IP-COP updates as they came out.
