Iomega 1TB HD Multimedia Player & Recorder

Has anyone had any experince with this device?
I'm currently in the market for a good HD multimedia player.
I was leaning more towards the WD HD multi media player, but the Iomega includes a 1TB HD as well as the recording capability.

I want something capable of playing most popular AND not so poular (mkv, flv, FLAC etc.) movie and audio formats.(Not just the common DivX, Xvid, mp3 etc)
Any recommendations?
Willing to spend R2500 - R3000.

Local is leka, but why is it more expensive than some imported players. Compare it to the WD Live media player. They go for about R1600. Only difference is they don't have space for an internal drive.

The mede8er is probably the best one. R3.5k for a 1TB, or R2.5k for a 500GB from Dionwired. Wanna know something funny? shipping for $199 in the U.S. for a local product. how's that right?

Er, why spend double just to have a HDD? Get teh WDTV Live for R1300 for goodness sake. It plays everything, has ethernet etc, what else could you ask for???

If I cant store all my media on a media player I dont want a HDD. Thats why I use teh WDTV and stream all of my movies from my network. much better.

For that price range, I'd recommend a PS3... You can pick up a PS3 Slim which has an added bonus of a blu-ray player. Nice thing about it is that you can pop in a game if/when you want to...

Popcorn Hour is the shiz, but the WD TV is also very good, particularly when you look at the price - granted, it doesn't have a built-in HDD but how many do?
I've got mine hooked up to a 2.5" WD 500GB + USB housing and it works great. Plus I have the portability of using the same drive at the office to watch all my series/movies over quiet periods, without extra power cables, etc...

AFAIK, I think they recently released the latest WD TV with a network port, so you can stream straight from your PC if you want.

personally, I have had a few different multimedia players and the best purchase I could ever have made was my WDTV. I purchased it in the US before it arrived in SA and it has never given me a days hassle!

If you shop around, you could get the WDTV (plays MKV without hassle) and a 500Gb 2.5" HDD for around R1500.... In fact, drive control have a special on this at the moment for around R1500.

Seriously, Western Digital actively scan the forums and take note of what people are saying in order to improve this product...

I have mine hooked up to my LCD via HDMI as well as to my Sony AMP via optical cable - the video and sound quality are phenominal - especially with high def content in MKV format...

WDTV all the way!!!
