The bar is very low, with regard to what people expect, and the same for the gear they use to reproduce that audio.

So to all intents and purposes, for most people, it does not matter. It is pointless, playing a recording studio master tape, using the gear those people use, as it is physically impossible for those devices to reproduce anywhere near what that medium can deliver. So they are not going to appreciate it anyhow. End result is they have no idea, what they are losing out on.

You give them a R1000.00 kit with a 2 cent chip that pops a ATMOS, DOLBY VISION or a TRUE HD trade mark on their screens, they get a hard on, that shoots holes in the ceiling. It is what it is.
I honestly don't care, I get paid R450 for an original base loop. So I don't really care. But I am saying if it was digitally created chances are that it has compressed media in it. That is all I am saying.

You can record very high quality digital audio, without any compression. We record our sermons at the church digitally, and supply Red Book CD's to those that want. If they want we will give them MP3 versions, on their memory sticks or cellphones. No issues. Can do 32 bit 192 KHz 18 track recordings, if there is reason for it. No issue.

I still use Vinyl most days for me personally, But I convert the audio to Bluetooth. I stand and work and move around a lot. I work very late hours so speakers is a no go for me. I like JBL products they sound good enough.

I was thinking Sennheiser but I really don't have the proper equipment to drive it yet.

Vinyl is still a very good medium, which, when I have the time, I still enjoy, when I am alone at home, Wife and Kids are out.

CD is also very good, but different, nothing better than good speakers, but yeah, when others are around, good headphones, are very good, but again, different.

How do you feel about NAD amplifiers?

I had most of them at one stage :

  • Tidal was my 'main' music source
  • Spotify had a great UI
  • YouRube Music just came with YouTube Premium
  • and Apple Music was included in the Apple One bundle

Was Tidal that good?
It's probably closed the gap in recent times - but for many years, if you valued sound quality, then Tidal was your option.

Tidal also offered lossless and a MQA library where I regulaly got 24/96 audio. There was a huge outcry on the merits of MQA (and it's since gone into liquidation - meaning many MQA haters are over the moon), but me MQA tracks sounded fantastic. However, even if you were an MQA hater, you'd be able to stream lossless files in a time were Apple were only relying on their 256kbit or something

But yea - on a hifi, I'd use my Tidal subscription. I stopped the Tidal when I sold most some of the HiFi

I subscribe to YouTube proper because I'm not just restricted to music streaming.

I guess it doesn't make sense - I have Spotify even though I pay for YT premium to not have ads. But Spotify is just so super good I cannot think of a world where I start listening music on Google. Which is financially dumb I would be the first to admit.

Exactly the same for me
We have Premium Duo, so the pricing feels pretty fair though.

I use YouTube music. It just works. The quality could be better yes. I have an MQA-capable DAC and a proper sound system, in my eyes. So I am not currently using my components to the fullest.

I tried Tidal and the quality really is better.
I am holding out till YT Music ups their quality. Hopefully.
Have apple music also. I think but don't use it.
