There can only be one, and I do not mess with compressed mp3; so Tidal it is!

Amazing to see how many people are recommending the platforms that don't support lossless audio:
- Youtube Music
- Spotify

Tidal, Deezer, Apple Music on the other hand all support lossless and a far higher quality of audio.

Not amazing, it just demonstrates, how low, most peoples, expectations, of what good audio is, and also how bad the ability of the systems they use to listen to audio are.

Bottom line is "if it makes a noise, it is good enough" look at all the people watching video's and listening to music on cellphones, it is what it is.

I doubt you'll be able to distinguish between AAC 256kbps and flac files unless you really use high end audio.

some just want to listen to music, compare any modern codec with broadcast radio quality and it will be MUCH better

also, not everyone wants to exhaust their internet cap (or drag their household's shared connection to its knees) just to listen to music, just like not everyone streams video in 4k, it is simply not necessary unless you deem it a top priority

YouTube Music. Apple’s encoding is superior but YT Music is good enough and cheap.

Hmm I must admit I've never tried lossless audio. Will give it a try.

At a point I had complete hearing loss, I am now back to partial hearing loss so for me there is no diffidence between audio formats.

What I find strange is that most modern audio creator tools use compressed media to create the sound to begin with so does it really matter? I create a lot of base tracks for individuals. They don't notice anything beyond 192Kbps at 16bits. Not sure if there is some magic in the decoder or not but I personally don't notice.

The bar is very low, with regard to what people expect, and the same for the gear they use to reproduce that audio.

So to all intents and purposes, for most people, it does not matter. It is pointless, playing a recording studio master tape, using the gear those people use, as it is physically impossible for those devices to reproduce anywhere near what that medium can deliver. So they are not going to appreciate it anyhow. End result is they have no idea, what they are losing out on.

You give them a R1000.00 kit with a 2 cent chip that pops a ATMOS, DOLBY VISION or a TRUE HD trade mark on their screens, they get a hard on, that shoots holes in the ceiling. It is what it is.
