looking at the priceslists which make to start off which ? (need: basic home user)

sony, samsung, gigabyte, asus, HP, LG or panasonic ?
 
Do NOT take LG whatever you do! Out of all those brands my recomendation is HP, but if you can then get a Dell...
 
Sony or HP. I have both and extremely happy with both.
I've only heard good things about Dell too.

If you're going to be travelling a lot (airport security) it's a great idea to go for the Panasonic Let's Note range (Business partially ruggerised laptops), it's worth the extra expense to have a notebook which can handle manhandling
and not suffer a scratch.
 
I would go for an HP as well, Game is having a special on a HP core 2 duo 2GHz specs ain't bad for the price..
 
sony or hp, panasoic let's range for traveling.

well that one is c2d; T5670 (1.80 GHz, 800 MHz FSB, 2 MB L2 cache).

last time i stuck with celeron it made quake run slow :D

nice special at game; now to find that book at wholesaler :)
