Which one would you recommend?

I actually have a 2007 Civic for sale...Based in Cape Town.
They're stunning cars. In fact only reason i'm selling this one is because I bought another one with less mileage and in AUTO.
Lemme know if you're keen.

Civic is a really good buy, I used to have a Honda and it was super reliable.

As others have said, find out the parts basket cost and the prices of minor and major services as well, as on cars out of maintenance plans this can get ugly really fast

Also worth a look is the annual Kinsey Report, which details which cars have the most affordable parts basket when measured against others. You can Google it (just type "2014 AA Kinsey Reports")

For some reason the actual page that houses the report won't load, but here is an article on it: http://www.msn.com/en-za/cars/news/which-cars-have-cheapest-parts-in-sa/ar-AA6R7y8

An excerpt:

The report splits car parts into three sub-sections: service parts, repair parts, and crash parts. These are combined to form an overall basket price. Each vehicle is then ranked against its competitors.

Go look at some cars. Then get pricing on insurance. That will also help make the decision easier.
Just FYI, Toyota and vw are quite high risk vehicles to get , no matter the model.

Heard them gt86's and Touaregs are being stolen left and right. What an ignorant comment.
