I need a SIM card for a data stick I've got.

Has to be prepaid since I expect low & infrequent usage (<50mb pm). I want to load a bunch of money (say R120) and then use it as needed.

So what is the current preferred network/deal for this type of thing?

I looked at 8ta...but most of their sweet 2+2 deals are only valid for 2 months. While the standard data prepaids don't specify anything regarding valid period.

Maybe Virgin Mobile? Or Cell C?

Speed does not matter, but decent coverage in Gauteng would be nice.

Probably cellc 3gig for 365days @R400 will be the best as you can still roam on vodacom. Or virgins @60c/mb im assuming virgin will roam on voda also. Edge speeds while roaming I think may be wrong
Then again if using below 50mb vodacom has that R400 deal where you get 100mb / month for 12months. + modem.
All other smaller type bundles will expire within 60 days at the most .

Cell C is too large for you, but convenient as valid for one year (256MB/pm average). Just remember, it is called Smartdata voucher R399 and must be purchased from the dealer, no conversion from airtime. R400 is a standard 3GB bundle valid for one month.

Also 8ta standard bundle 100MB R40 or 250MB R80. Valid to the end of the next month. so if you buy on the beginning of the month, it equals R20 per month.

This is standard bundle, so it can roam to MTN.
