Got the Epson L3250 a few months ago. Not a heavy user but it does what it's supposed to do when it's supposed to do it.

I bought the Brother DCP T420W about two weeks ago. So far it works as advertised. Refill ink is around R300 per colour.

Out of the box it comes with 2xblack, 1xmagenta, 1xcyan, and 1xyellow. Supposed to last a couple of thousand pages, but can't confirm yet.
Just remember that inkjet printers need to print once a week or so to make sure the print heads don't clog, etc.

Also, this printer does not work with Mac, for some reason. But if you're a Linux/Windows user, it should be fine.

And 5 year warranty, for what it's worth.

Printing and scanning on the DCP-T420W via Mac requires downloading of the Brother iPrint&Scan app from the App Store. The Brother iPrint&Scan application on macOS supports PDF/JPG/BMP and PNG formats only. Mac printer driver is not provided.

What kind of issues?

Definitely NOT an HP...been in a few month long trauma of sending that piece of **** back and forth until Takealot finally gave in and just refunded me.

I'm actually looking at the Epson L3260 but waiting on a special.

Would have done Brother otherwise but AirPrint seems to be few and far between on their printers.

Printers are a whole are just all ****, it's about which one is less **** than others.

HP have really disappointed me with their k@k GUI + account necessity and driver requirements. I have also found that, despite the claimed 15% ink saving on each printed sheet, the cartridges have to be replaced fairly often without being a heavy user. I use the OfficeJet Pro 7740 HP printer and honestly, not very impressed.

I have a Canon G7040 since 2020. Not a single issue. Only replaced the ink once so far.

Although there's a code that popped up recently, saying that the waste ink absorber needs to be replaced, which can only be done by Canon. But this is a maintenance thing, which after 5 years is understandable...

This is unfortunately the problem with cartridge based setups and not using them often enough, they simply go dry.

The modern ink tank setups should be doing much better at this.

I got one of the Epson eco tank printer / scanners.
It’s been great for the last 7 years or so. The ink is cheap, and it prints perfectly every time.
You can send it something via email, or phone, or over Wi-Fi.

Greatest printer ever.

It's similar with ink tanks, you need to print something once a week or so to be safe. Otherwise the ink in the tubes go dry, requiring an ink flush to fix - which uses a lot of ink.

Not as bad as cartridges which renders the entire cartridge useless, but the issue is still there...

Better question is why are all their websites so ****? Trying to find information from the manufacturers for which one is AirPrint compatible is near impossible.

I end up having to take the model numbers to Google or Apple's list of supported printers which really shouldn't be necessary.

I keep a colour test page on the flatbed and just do a colour scan once a week or so.

I have also found that print quality issues come up if I don’t print anything from my ink tank printer in 2-3 weeks, necessitating a print head clean each time.

wtf happened to the entry level colour laser printers?

5+ years ago you could find some under R5k ... now it seems R7k is the cheapest colour laser printers?
