Which Processor

Yep the 7600GT comes with its own fan. The sound is def coming from the processor. The sound intensifies when opening a picture for example or any app. and also when writing a dvd. I've always had this problem, when I used XP Home and when the Intel utility was installed (board monitor) - it should always pop up a warning that the processor's temp has exceeded normal parameters. The intel utility doesn't work on Vista so there's no irritating pop ups :)

'For everything else in life there's Mastercard' lol, so I don't mind abusing the ol' credit card for a worthy cause. It's just that with the pc being in da room it does create a disturbance :(

my pc runs smooth with 4 fans,but the noise is horrific,I don't mind the noise,What i did to make the noise softer of the fans happen by mistake,my finger got jammed against the fan and it hurt like hell my nails,but since that happened my pc is quiet now.

lol aahhh misery loves company. But I'm not prepared to go through any physical pain.

I really wasnt interested in Intel stuff at all, with their frequent chipset changes and hot running P4's back in those days. Intel was for nerfherders back then...
 
well i think to give da fan a jolt just poke something in the fo a sec,this might make the fan run perfect on its axis,I am serious when i say this,just jama thingy in it and take it out again,you will be amazed at what stupid advice can do ,it worked for me by accident,painfully thou.

You are correct.
Have used Intel boards for a long time and have not had any real problems. IMO. They are a better match for the Intel processors. If they have issues you can always get the latest bios update.

Lets rather stick with cryptic1's problem. :)

Is the fan on the CPU an Intel fan (Its should have a label on indicating so.) if not then it is third party fan. I have never had a Intel genuine fan go faulty. If not just go and bye a CPU heatsink and fan. If it is an Intel fan and the CPU is not more than 3 years old Intel will replace it free of charge.

Take a small brush, and brush the top of the fan so that you can loosen all the old dust etc. Then a vacuum cleaner remove all the excess dust etc. Just make sure the system is switched off but still plugged in. Touch the the vac's pipe aggainst the side of the case, because it can generate quite a bit of static

Ok I opened the side cover and there's an intel sticker on the fan. Lemme try your suggestion Csnoopy - thank you :)
 
Me neither, but they can get noisy after a while depending on how hard they work. Air pressure, CPU temp, dust, etc all come into play. Some switch cleaner and a vacuum, then some lubricant. That has always sorted my CPU fans out. Have you taken into consideration it could also be your hard drive? If all else fails, try moving your hard drive to a different spot in the drive cage.
 
I've a got an intel celeron, 2.4 I think, @ work and that thing works with absolutely no noise. And it's got a 256 ram lol, I'm due for an upgrade - everyone else has the dual core and it kicks ass.

The plot thickens if you change the mobo & cpu you also have to change the ram. It uses a different version of dram. What ever mobo you choose make sure it will support all the devices you have, with enought ide/sata ports available.

A wild guess +- R2500 CPU+MOBO+RAM. :)
 
well p4s do run hot...... its prob your heatsink fan spinning up faster trying to cope with the extra heat when your cpu is under load

Best bet would be a new big heastink with a 80mm fan

Go to a relaible PC Shop. Ask for a good quality fan & heatsink. You can get real junk fans so be carefull what you buy. Intel fans are very reliable, have cleaned and tried it again? You need to do the same with the Video card fan. Are you sure it is the CPU fan and not the Video card fan. They are close to each other.

I only installed the card in April, I had this noise problem before then.
