Hi,

Can anyone tell me what psu would suite me right.Want to spend as little as i can, but needs to be a decent psu.

This is my current system:

3800+ AMD
Biostar 6100 Nforce mboard
Ati HIS 1650 Pro
2x 1gig ddr2 800Mhz
1x 750GB Sata WD
2x 74gb Seagate 15K U320
2x 36gb Maxtor Atlas 15K U320
1x 146gb Seagate 10K U160
Controller board that takes 2 molex connectors for 5bay hot swap.
Samsung DVD Sata Writer
Crappy old 220W psu

What psu would be perfect for my needs and how much would it cost.

What is your view of the Microlab 500w psu? good or not?

:rolleyes::rolleyes::rolleyes:

In cape town look at cafe viva. Take2 deliver any where in the country.

Why not just go to any matrix computers though?

Don't gift any power supply that's that's less than R1 per watt. Can't have good quality components in at all.

The cooler master 390watt is your best bet.

I'd also put one on the Coolermaster 390W. I run two hdd's and a 9800GT on a 360W and have no issues, so unless you want to upgrade your graphics card anytime soon, 390W is more than enough.

CafeViva are the cheapest

They charging R399 for the Coolermaster 390W PSU.

Must sell my extra ram first.

Anybody interested in 2x 512mb ddr2 667Mhz and 2x 1gig ddr2 800Mhz.

Any offers welcome

Cape Town buyers only

Even though this power supply can’t deliver its labeled power, it isn’t a bad product for its price tag and targeted audience. Its real power is close to its labeled power (430 W) and its efficiency isn’t bad for a low-end product. Plus it has all its protections up and running, a thing sometimes hard to find on cheap power supplies.
If you are building an entry-level PC with just one or two hard disk drives and just one video card – or even maybe with an on-board solution – this power supply is a good option.

dude he is running seven drives (including DVD) and he wants to use a 390W Coolermaster!? According to these dudes above the 430W isnt even enough...

Corsair VX450W: A terrific product, better than the reviewed power supply. It can deliver more power, has far better efficiency, has lower noise level, has all protections but costs the double.

like I said... you get what you pay for :)

what Im getting at is I know stuff is expensive, and I wasnt born in a pot of gold... but I went through this whole process, and rather get something quality. I mean, its powering your whole life! :)

Same topic, different location!! Where can I source a PSU (for my nephew) in Port Elizabeth on a Sunday? Must be >600W ...

/All suppliers are obviously closed, so normally in desperation we used to swallow our pride and go to PE Tech, but he has been closed down!

Why do you say must be bigger than 600watt? It totally depends on the brand. I'd trust a corsair 450watt a lot more than an isonic 600watt.

IMO he has too many devices installed, but he is young and will learn!!

Hi HTC guy

You reckon the 390W Corsair won't be enough for my 6 drives, dvd-writer and gpu card. In your opinion what make and model psu would suit my needs perfectly.

Im not a gamer and i don't run a server. My use of my machine is mostly playing the odd game, bit of typing, watching movies and the general use of the pc.

And why is PSU so damn expensive?
:(:(:(

The psu powers your whole system. Rather not go cheap there.

If you have a bit more to spend get the cooler master 460watt.

The power supplies i've been recommending aren't expensive. Why don't you have a look at the pricing for Antec, corsair, enermax and zalman power supplies.

This reminds me of the article that I saw quite a while back where "hardwaregeeks/some similar site" went and tested how much power a high end system actually needed. I think the recommended PSU for the system needed to be something like at least a 550W but after thoroughly testing the system ended up using a maximum of 350-390W under load. If someone can actually find the article and linky me to it because I would love to read it again.

My point here being that a GOOD PSU even with a low-ish power rating can suffice for a system more often than we like to think.

Agreed. CM EP 460watt will be perfect if there is doubt in the 390watt.
