I hate duck down. It is super light. But the feathers are still feathers and I can feel it. They poke. I have one of the most expensive ones from Cape Union Mart. They tiny things but they are still feathers. I wish I took the synthetic one.

I've had a few down jackets and i've never experienced that but an issue they nearly all have is they leak feathers out the seams which can get pretty annoying but other than that no issues with them other than the price.

I have both kway and first ascent, both in 650 fill, and one kway in 600.
The kway 650 has a detachable 'hoodie' which I like. The first ascent has a better zipper (bigger / coarser teeth) which feels more robust, which I also like.

Unlike the 650's, the 600 fill doesn't have zippers for the pockets. All of them scrunch up into their travel bags really really compact.

My first ascent is a work item, company branded. I chuck it onto my laptop bag so I always have jacket (aircon control gets really competitive sometimes) and it hardly takes up any space.

Either way, I'm happy with all of them.

I've never understood any "jacket" that keeps my arms open. Fine if you have to wear a school blazer or suit jacket or something but I need to keep my thin weak computer-arms warm.

I wear it on top of my normal hoodie jacket for extra warmth or when I feel the chill on my sides.
Losing +-12kg made this winter brutal.

Mine is the 650FP. It's not bad and maybe it is through a seem as those feathers are super tiny. I just don't like things poking me.

Tell me is K-Way only a Cape thing because everyone I know here got a K-Way jacket (myself got 4 of different colors and thickness) but apparently up north not so much.

Why would you need a puffer jacket in South Africa?

Anyway...synthetic is better, especially when the jacket gets wet. Down cannot handle moisture...

It's also cheaper.

I've had First Accent for many years now: 90/10 650 fill and 90/10 850 IIRC. The former is pretty comfy in autumn and winter if the house isn't too cold, but the 850 is really nice when it is cold. I paid R1200 for the 650 about 5 years ago (on a sale). Both can also be compressed very small for transport (the one essentially inverts into its own side pocket and zips shut), although shouldn't be stored that way long-term.

The 850 had micro-tears where feathers started leaking out, but some paragliding wing repair tape sorted that problem out: you won't even know it has been fixed.

And as mentioned above, you don't want them to get wet.

I like the 600 for when I'm indoors or to wear underneath a bigger jacket / coat (such as when going hunting, it's very comfy underneath my hunting jacket.

Just be careful , there are many fake(mostly K-Way) jackets out there on platforms such as Facebook marketplace.
