Which RX470 which you say is better ?

Hi,

I wanted to know which is the best brand to buy here ?
I really dont care about looks and gaming as i want mine for programs like 3D Studio Max and computational stuff.
I like to play with modeling

I just dont want to end up with one that is like a snail or short a couple or few megahertz in clock speed.
I cant paste a picture for some reason it is blocked.

I am really happy to get a 4GB card i dont thikn i need a 8Gb card... i am after computing like encoding of movies and then of course gaming. I would say my primary would be modeling like 3D Studio Max and then Computing like encoding of movies.

Sapphire Radeon RX 470 Nitro Graphics Card (4GB)
Asus Radeon Strix RX470 OC Graphics Card (4GB)
Gigabyte Radeon RX 470 G1-Gaming Graphics Card (4GB)
Sapphire Radeon RX 470 OC Graphics Card (4GB)


This is my list of the possible cards i can buy in the RX470 range.

Please let me know, most appreciated.

Also i have somebody in my mind asking me to ask you guys also, will it not be better to buy 2 RX460s since they are cheaper?And also to confirm if the RX470 is better than getting the R9 range of cards?

Also, what about GTX 1050 or 950/960? silly ideas?

My system is currently 16GB DDR3 ram 1866 speed , intel i7 2600k and i also have an AMD X4 860k , so i am not sure which would be the better system to use here.

The RX470 is a misplaced card in my view...it's pricing is too close to the 4Gb RX 480. I'm going to give you the same advice I gave someone else who was shopping in the 3k range...spend a few hundred more and get the RX 480 from Wootware (R3300.00 on special).

As for the rest of your systems, I'd stick with the 2600k but overclock it. You should be able to get to 4.2Ghz quite easily and probably around 4.5Ghz without needing too much in the way of expensive cooling.

+1 rather get R3300 one from wootware.
 
So i hear you guys, i was wanting to save the 300 bucks and get 2 RX470s at a later stage.... only because the performance is so close to the RX480....

My biggest problem is that that is a later stage....where i will use cash money BUT for now i have discovery miles which is why i want to buy one of the cards in my list.

I can cover at least 2 grand on the card already.

Its a such a pity that discovery miles can only be used at loot or take2.

Don't get two RX 470s, it's always wiser to go with a single card (unless you've got some very specific needs). If you want that level of performance then wait and save up all the money and then buy a GTX 1070 which you can pick up for about R6300.

So what i understand is that most games do not really understand dual GPUs or maybe im not saying properly but you dont see much performance difference.
For Rendering , Encoding , Modelling software they actually show each GPU and use them to the full potential of them.

The games have to support it and even then you never really get 2x scaling - plus you're using more power, generating more heat and using more space inside your case. Games can also support it badly and you end up having to disable Crossfire.

As you mention with productivity apps, yes some applications can leverage the GPU resources from each card but it's also software dependent.
 
Agreed, Crossfire isn't worth it. Yes, you get the performance gain, but at the end of the day you are using Twice the power, and not getting twice the performance.

I forgot about that example, some guy told me to see with mining people what their opinion is since it is very close to using software like i do , like 3D Studio max and other rendering gravity and modelling tools.
I also run millions of scenarios against market risk using in-house built market risk software, and i have told the guys i work with here that we need to get better GPUs .

So how is the performance for you using 2 cards? and would you reckon i am making a mistake buying an RX470 if i wanted to save the few hundred in my case ... ?
I literally dont have the money for the RX480 it is very pricey for me and i am buying this out of my pocket. I could get the RX480 but i dont see the point if i can use the remainder i save on the RX470 for not only shipping prices BUt also because the performance between the 2 seem marginal ?

You won't regret buying a card that's too good. You will regret buying a card that's not good enough.

Correct , which is why i have decided i am wasting my time for my purpose buying a GTX 1050 / 950 / 960 or even an RX 460.
I have decided that for my buying power i will pursue the RX470 range.

I still do not know though of my list provided, which is the better RX470 of the lot:

Something tells me to go with the Saphire Nitro option else Asus or Gigabyte.
The Vanilla Saphire does not perform as well as the Nitro which is what i have learnt thus far.

As mentioned above by another user, the games have to support or make use of the dual graphics setup.
I still say that based on what i have watched and read games dont use the full potention of that setup whereas Modelling/Mining/Rendering and Encoding software do, a lot better or almost to the full potential.

So my question still stands regarding my list of which RX470 to choose from, appreciate the input.

Buy the wootware 480, then use your discovery miles to buy your toothpaste and stuff from takealot.

You want to play Doom, because it's awesome. You want to 480, because its great value for money. Why would you want to buy a 470 for more than a 480, just so you can spend your miles?
