You'd make a more informed decision by playing with those little rubber dummy phones at the shops than using that stupid page.

You really are exhibiting rabid fanboy mentality in this thread, mate. The phone's OK; nothing special but it'll fit the bill and if that's all you're looking for, then that's fine. However it's not the be-all and end-all of mobile tech that your frantic defence seems to imply.

Anyway, you've got another thread or two where we can argue over the merits of the phone until the cows come home. This thread is about the link in the OP. You'll be glad to know that I checked again this morning, and it still sucks. ;)

But Lance. If I agree with most people I get one of your famous "sheeple" comments. If I try to be an individual that makes up my own mind, I get something like this:

If you applied even an inkling of intelligence, which I realise is assuming a lot, to what you were reading and posting you will see that those references said exactly the same thing. Let me make it easier for you :

One the one hand you have "sheeple"

On the other hand you have people doing something "under the premise of being individual, even though every second person is sporting the same style"

Get it? Probably not but anyway.....

I try not to get involved in online arguments, but..

You really need to learn to take a look around, that sheet is totally useless.

Just looking at the SGS ( yes, I am biased, I own one. ).

"Regular Firmware Updates" - Samsung ( and android ) have a long history of OS updates, in the last year there have been five or six new revisions..

"File Management" - Eh? It has a fully fledged file browser, and with apps from the market ( free ones ), you can mount network shares, manage ftp transactions, or do whatever you'd like.

"Cost" - On a cheap contract, I paid in R1200 for the phone, hardly expensive.

If you'd like, I can dissect your precious N8's list, but just at a glance it deserves a far lower score in a lot of categories.

Or, I guess you could admit that the link is worthless.

It appears the author has gone ahead and taken a bunch of pamphlets and filled in the blanks with his imagination.

And yes, I am copying people, because - and get this - they're right. Being a sheep is only a bad thing when it harms you. You're the type who'd go "Nah, I won't go to the doctor, that's what everyone else does."

Feel free to dissect the N8s ratings. In fact I encourage you to because as pointed out the whole reason behind me chatting about things like this on a forum is to invite ideas that I may have missed.

Unfortunately I have come to realise that the camera is extremely important to me which is probably why I am not easily swayed. As stated before software can be updated (and in a review I just watched a news flash indicated that a browser update is already in the pipeline for Symbian^3) but hardware is hardware.
 
The N8 is a nice looking phone with nice camera. Just a pity the rest sucks. If it was running android it would have been great.

But back to this thread. Nope I am not going to find my answer on your link.
 
Interesting, although as with any review it is subjective. Also didn't notice any blackberry phones in the mix.

Indeed, there are very few reviews which are not affected by the personal views of the writer. I read another comparing the iPhone, N8 and Galaxy S in which various sections of the phones were given points. Again the N8 came out tops. I initially chose not to share it as I knew full well all the owners of those other two phones would jump up and down and scream that it was biased but I'll share it here now :

You'll see that the author decides not to rate the OS as he rightfully states that this is an area that is far to subjective. You can directly compare screen size and amount of RAM but how do you objectively compare the OS.

Can't view your link, but not being able to contextualise my response, I do disagree with you. Elements such as ease of use, customisability, stability and integration of features and functions of an OS are quantifiable and can be rated. I will grant that appearance is largely a subjective assessment, though.

How do you quantify "ease of use"?

If anything the non-American reports that are now starting to filter through about the N8 seem to show how it is all based on the users experience and perceptions.

Plus, it’s a Nokia, and has a hugely familiar operating system that’s intuitive and simple, so there’s only the gentlest new-interface learning curve.

In fact, the system has been greatly improved from earlier touchscreen versions so it’s less erratic and more accessible.
