I'm using a DigiChilli account now and for obvious reasons am unable to use the smtp.saix.net server for outgoing mail.

I've tried quite a few, the IS one just hangs.

Any idea whether DigiChilli have their own one? or one that is not IP blocked that I can use?

Thanks ;)

Its not for me, its my dad's account. Which came with our normal Saix account. So I need an smtp server that will work for it.

I use a hotmail account, so no problems with that :)

Golden rule is to use smtp.<insert ISP's domain name here>

It's never let me down yet.

Golden rule is to NEVER use an ISP email address, you are just creating crap for your self in the future when you decided to move to a new ISP.

Use Gmail. It can also be configured for pop access etc.

Agreed 100%, but it's useful to be able to send an email on the work email account from home from time to time without having to bother with the whole VPN connection. Makes the boss proud when he sees you replied to his mail at 1:30am :D

I'm not the biggest fan of monopolies, so I don't feel 100% happy about gmail, not that I can actually point to anything specific as a reason not to use it. I mostly use my vodamail.co.za account, as I reckon I'll always have at least one active Vodacom SIM card for the foreseeable future.

Valid reason :D

Where is the monopoly? I did not know google was the only provider of email out there. I think you are just being paranoid ;)

I'm very happy with gmail, been using it for years since it was beta via invitation only and it's the best. To date I have only had two small interruptions in service which is not the case for other isp email accounts I have used.

Gmail's not got a monopoly on email, but Google are going to be the next Microsoft. Everyone loved Microsoft when they were the little guy beating up on big bad IBM, but then they became the bully. Google's headed there next :-)

+ 100. It shocks me to see the number of people on myBB forums complaining about this when they want to change ISPs. And you'd think as myBB forumites, they'd know better.

The difference is that Google is giving away almost everything for free, pr charging very little - exactly what the consumers want, and being smart about how it generates revenue (advertising). They're not sucking consumers dry, like MS are...

Nope. The golden rule is to use one with username & password authentication for outgoing mail.

That way the chances of you stuff getting flagged as spam is zero to none.

That is what I prefer, but many mailservers aren't setup that way, especially corporate ones, so often you don't have much choice.

Except of course, telkom, who must always be different!
If you are an ADSL subscriber then it is:
incoming: pop3.telkomsa.net
outgoing: smtp.dsl.telkomsa.net
