Hi guys,

I know there is a thread covering this already that mentions a few programs.

I just want an easy program to create a copy of the hard drive (that needs backing up) onto another hard drive.

Any ideas?

Thanks. :)

Insufficient data :) ..do you mean clone the existing drive, which you would do for a boot device, or just copy files from one drive to another?

A friend's laptop is going in for repairs so I just want to back up her HDD in case anything goes wrong. I would want to be able to load all her old data/Windows etc. from my external HDD.

Thanks!

Either Norton Ghost or Acronis Back-Up

Cobian is awesome. Very simple, yet extremely effective.

It's a free program.

I used Cobian. Wasn't great. Had problems with it on lots of PCs. I also used SyncBack, which couldn't do what I wanted. Now I've got SmartSync Pro (the licenses for it came with a NAS I bought) and although it isn't very polished GUI-wise, it works well and gets the job done quickly and effectively.

Included in the list of (free) progs I've tried and not enjoyed are EZBackitup (terrible) and SyncToy (a Microsoft powertoy) which I also didn't like.

Yep Norton Ghost is excellent, it's probably the only thing that Symantec got right

Acronis TrueImage v9.0 - currently using this and have had no problems - can do a full backup, incremental and full disk / HDD clone.
