Which SSD to buy?

Got a 128 Kingston, huge improvement over old mech sinner but with Windows & 2 games its nearly full. I'd recommend a 256gb if within price range. For me brand is not that important.

They use sandforce controllers so yes.

Hi There,
Yes SSD do not give the longer term performance today that many of the traditional storage devices do but they will improve. If going SSD is what you want to do then I would look at the write cycle as that is a better indication of longevity.
More important though is to make sure that you do back it up if you are storing your variable data on it rather than things like the OS.
Currently I would not put any mission critical data on an SSD.

I pay delivery at woot ware though?

I noticed some say SATA3G and others SATA6G. What is that?
 
I had a look on AnandTech's site & the Samsung 840 Pro kills anything and everything....by large margins! :eek:

Where can I buy one of these bad boys in Cape Town?

If you just quickly glance an eye on Anandtech & SSD benchmarks, the 840 Pro is simply the best. Especially under the "Heavy Workload" benchmark, it puts all the others to shame.

SATA 3 and SATA 6 ... what's the difference?

Looking at this.

And everyone chatting about the long term use - how long is it roughly? Surely I won't need another in 2 years?

Nope. Closer to 5 years.

If your board supports SATA6 the SSD will perform at it's best.

SATA3 will limit it's performance, but still be hundreds of times faster than a normal hard drive.

EDIT : I see I have an ASUS P8B75-V ... I'll check it out. Says SATA6 ... so I should look for a SATA6 SSD

The controller is basically the chipset used.

Kingston SSDs are usually crap.

Sanddisk have some very good options, but depends on the model.

What's models of the ones you're looking at?
