Which SSD?

I'd go for a OCZ Vertex 4 128GB... I have one and it's pretty amazing.

Unfortunately the Vertex 4 is now replaced by the Vertex 450 and it is rather expensive at almost R1800: http://www.wootware.co.za/ocz-vtx450-25sat3-128g-vertex-450-series-128gb-2-5-sataiii-ssd.html
At that price I'd rather take the Plextor M5 Pro 128GB: http://www.comx-computers.co.za/PX-...mania&utm_medium=cpc&utm_campaign=direct_link
because the Vertex 4/450 takes a big performance hit one you exceed 50% of its capacity.

Thanks, but it has to be from Prophecy.co.za and within the price limit :o

They replaced the 4?
Eish. I only bought mine two months ago.

I am not having any speed issues with mine hey, and my capacity is at 72% full.
I checked my initial CrystalDiskMark (Windows only) and compared it to now and there's maybe a 20% drop in speed, which is to be expected. Nothing out of the ordinary.

I have the Crucial M4. M5 is now out.

Chose Crucial as they have extremely decent all round performance, and best gb/$ ratio.

I would go for an OCZ Vector...not sure what the pricing is like these days..

And the two I linked? What's wrong with those?
The Intel one is out of stock :)

The Kingston one appears to be better than the Intel 330 one by a very small margin according to Anandtech's benchmarks/review, and I have to say the results were quite impressive.
There seems to be an identical Kingson V300 120GB SSD for under R1500: http://www.prophecy.co.za/kingston-....html?osCsid=b17d1c36aeb0dc0d9c8a8df66e1b8a13

So you were right :) and IMO that Kingston is the best choice then - and not the ADATA one like I mentioned :(

Rickster, do you perhaps know if there is a difference between the 2 Kingston V300 120GB products listed at Prophecy Shop?

From what I googled, the more expensive one comes with cloning software and a 2.5" enclosure, but I see no mention of that on the store.

The Kingston says it has 450mb speed where this one: http://www.prophecy.co.za/vertex-se....html?osCsid=b17d1c36aeb0dc0d9c8a8df66e1b8a13 has 550mb

Is the speed one of those things that is not as relevant as I think it is?

@Pooky:
Thanks for the feedback on those 2 Kingston SSD's.

Those maximum speeds are usually only achieved in 1 or 2 synthetic benchmarks, so they're fairly irrelevant.

SanDisk SSDs would also be a good consideration at your price range. They're as good as Samsung and Crucial and they're playing more to the value market than gunning for outright speed.

Sandisk Ultra Plus 128GB @ R1299 (review here)

Samsung are still the best buy though.
