Which SUV and why?

Also, would you rather have a 8 year / 80 000km old car, or a 1 year / 10 000km old one (with remainder of warranty and service plan)

What did you come across that drew your attention away? :)
Nothing, she has B220 (2015), lovely car but we were thinking of getting something bit highher.
She wants someting fancy and I would prefer something more utilitarian that she can still take to work and someting that can do gravel.
Unfortuantelly my defender is not comfortable for longer trips (I will not sell it).

Most likely we will not get anything this year unless there is some super bargain so I will continue looking.
So just window shopping.....

If you can, watch the conclusion of this video. He gives a nice roundup of many of the options your probably looking at.

I’ll second this. I had exactly this car and it’s a lot of car for the money. Heck it might even be my exact car, spec and mileage are right … just made its way down from JHB.

I like Hyundai too, enough that I bought a new Hyundai Tucson N-Line AWD. In red. Because that’s the only correct colour for it.

I wasted a LOT of time looking for what the OP is, and came to the conclusion that there are only tears down that road. Even BMW X3 have been selling for well over R1 million new for a while now, so newish used ones are all going around R700-R800K. Yes you can get ones for R500K, but I can only wish you good luck there. The problem is to find a well-specced one, because a barebones BMW is a tragedy.

These days there are more Chinese SUVs than you can shake a stick at, but I found quality to be lacking when compared to Hyundai’s new vehicles. I still ticked the box for a maintenance plan upgrade, just for that peace of mind, because it actually wasn’t much extra.

It comes down to what you want. For me, I wanted a two-litre turbodiesel, adaptive cruise control, and a good sound system. My Tucson ticked all those boxes and I totally enjoyed it on a roadtrip from JHB to George, to Cape Town and back this holiday.

Good luck OP, may you find your hen’s teeth! Or just double your budget and go treat yourself to something new, you deserve it.

Very nice... Alot more expensive than the one in the OP, but probably driven very lightly. I think it would be a hard sell unless the higher mileage one shows signs in a test drive.
Yes but the one in OP is from We Buy Cars.
Partial service record (that normally screams odo has been tampered with)
Also
Body Panels
icon
Condition: Below Average
Panels have visible dents, scratches, or previous minor repair work.

I have seen cars a WBC with "as expected" rating on body panels. They were not great.
Below average probably means after the crash, the panels colours does not match.

Your options are between a 5-8 year old GLC and X3 in the catagory you're looking.......unless you want either something that leaks oil on your driveway, or something made in China, which you must always keep in a cool, dry place under 25°, do not expose to direct sunlight........

So, do you feel lucky......or are you wise? An old GLC or X3 is still miles better than a new Chinesium and will outlast it times over.

There, something for the infedels to complain about and call me names.

Edit.....I forgot to address the Duster question. I loved my Duster, but I developed an aversion to the use of indicators, so much so that I was left with no option but to buy a BMW.

Seriously, I loved the Diesel version of the Duster and enjoyed mine. Cheap to buy (relatively), cheap to run (sold mine @ 128k km), only tyres and a battery ever replaced, but....but....I do not like the move to petrol engines on a small SUV....maybe still if like a 1600 to 2L....but a high pressured turbo 1200cc, nah!

I would stay away from second hand luxury brand SUV'S especially ones older than 5 years. It's too risky unless you're willing to deal with problems.

Those JLR ingenium diesels are ticking time bombs, run far, far away!

I'd pick the GLC, because, well, the Duster is a shitbox
What issues do they have, I haven't seen lots of reports of those engines grenading?

A quick Google:

Probably another advising on rumours from the local bar, never having even driven, not to mention own a Duster, but calls it a shitbox!

Don't people like this realise how idiotic they come over making such sweeping uninformed statements?

My experience is it is a winner. Reliable, long lasting and economic. Yes, I actually owned one for 128k km.

As for the Landy, I'veheard crap about it, but never owned one, so I cannot advise.

LOLz!

Dude, I drive an RRS, so yeah, everything else is a shitbox barring the usual suspects - FFRR, Bentley, RR, etc.

And yes, I have driven a Duster - it is a shitbox.

RRS...Range Rover Sport?

How do you deal with the oil leaks? Do you buy oil colour matched to your driveway paving?

Look, I've no more experience on that oil sieve (as I hear) than you with a Duster.
For a R440k entry level SUV, I stand by my opinion it is a great car. Does it compare favourably with my X3....well, no, but the X3 is good for a car costing over 2x the Duster.

Try keep context. I deem myself unqualified to call your car crap, although, I hear people saying so.

Well-played sir. That’s the politest retort to somebody attempting to brag I’ve ever seen. “I’m not personally qualified to classify you an irredeemable butt-muppett, but I strongly suspect that a higher-than-average percentage of the population may do so.”
