Which UTP(LAN) cable to get?

I'm geting close to having ADSL now so I want to start sorting out all the things that need sorted.

One of them is getting the correct cable for connecting one of my PCs to the router. The first PC is fine and a normal flylead will do. The other one tho is in the geusthouse which would need a 30-40 metre length cable.

My question is do I rather use stranded or solid core? Since I'll be setting the cable up through the roof and it won't be moved around alot I'm thinking solid core. My problem is that I can only get like 300 metre lengths of cable. So I'd be stuck with over 250 metres of solid core that I wouldn't be able to use for flyleads since they're more fragile.

Is there really such a big difference between solid core and stranded, especially over the distance I'm going for?

PS: Where else can I buy UTP cable from? In lengths of about 100m?

We're running standard cable for all our connections and have never noticed any problems. I'd say unless you can somehow get the solid core in short lengths (30-40 metres) just use standard.

30-40 Ain't short IMHO... Solid cores are a better conductor than stranded cores, therefore the theory goes that you get a better quality of transmission. Given however, it more than likely won't make any notiable difference, solid core is also noticably cheaper than stranded.

Appart from that, if you're running your cable next to electricity and things that could cause interference, I'd recommended STP (Shielded cable), which will come only in a solid form...
