ME was a cockup of note - simply a filler before they released 2000. I used 2000 for a few years before jumping into XP - my games just worked. XP gave me grief when I tried it.

Windows 7 and windows 8. Hard to actually vote when there is no option for multiple choice.

IIRC, I had to run SimCity on Me because it just didn't work on 2000.

I actually went to 2000 after XP because XP was giving me so much grief.
SimCity worked just fine on my 2000 system - maybe it had something to do with your hardware? Who knows - hardware abstraction was only really coming into its own around that time?

That would be me, by choice. While I run Win7 at work, all my home PCs run XP, even the i7 and i5. I find it way more efficient to work with than Win7.
