U guys with the AMD 64 bit comps.... which version of Vista is bestest?
I am thinking of getting Vista Ultimate, but not sure which is best for my AMD 64 x2 5600 cpu... the 32bit or 64bit version?
Theres not much price diff, one would 'assume' that the 64bit version would be best, but I'm worried about drivers etc & other issues with the 64bit. I have not heard good things about the Win64 bit versions, even since the days of XP 64bit.
Will the 64bit version even really be noticably better, ie... benefits vs possible/probable problems I might run into.
Planning to do dual boot (XP/Vista) anyways for the stuffs that don't like Vista, or no Vista drivers.
Compie mainly used for videos, VB programming, and of course, gaming.
Where can I get a trial version, would like to see which is best for my pc, but it seems trials no longer available ...
I suppose I could get a copy of each off the eMule / P2P networks, though I prefer not to get software that way.

vista 64 bit is fully supported just like any other vista version

its nothing like xp 64 bit, where most drivers where non existent

vista 64 is just like 32 bit with drivers

I'm currently using Vista Ultimate on my 6400+ Black Edition and she runs like an absolute dream. You will still need to get a couple of drivers for the OS but all the drivers I've tested so far (Asus, ATI, AMD, Realtek) have worked oulik. No hassles there, I'll recommend you have a go with VU X64 if you want to get the max out of your setup. I've run VU X86 as well but it makes the machine feel "tame", if that makes sense to you.

If you want extra networking and security capabilities go for ultimate else home premium is fine.

Switched to home premium x64 for the last 3 days. No issues. Also something to note as concerning gaming Vista x64 has less crashes due to memory leaks compared to vista 32 bit. Guys running witcher on x64 have had a lot less crashes than those running x86. There's a ms hotfix but this only improves it it doesn't do away with the memory leaks.

All my hardware had drivers when I switched to x64 , only worry could be some older programs or games which don't support x64 but the rest will be fine.

I used Windows Vista Ultimate x64 for a while. If you can afford it then I'd probably recommend Ultimate :)

aah thanx for your inputs guys.
have been wanting to try Vista for a while, coz this new (-ish) x2 5600 just doesnt seem as stable on XP as my previous rig, single core 64 3000+ which gave no ****.
