Owned a Galaxy Tab 1 10.1 before it got stolen earlier this year. Have decided to get another tab. Don't need gsm as I always have my mifi with me.

About to buy the Galaxy Tab 3 10.1 for R4400. Is there any other tablet for similiar money which I should rather be looking at?

The Tab 3 has horrible specs, don't get it. It's only slightly better than the 3 year old Tab 1.

Look at the Xperia Tablet Z or Nexus 10.

The N10 is over a year old, and should fit within your price bracket. It's the tablet with the best specs on the market, though some find it ugly. Its also upgradeable to Kit Kat.

The XTZ is about 9 months old, and will probably be a bit out of your budget, but what a tablet. It's beautiful, fast, great display, water and dust proof. I would even go so far as buying one of these 2 tabs second hand, then buying the Tab 3. Stay clear of it!

For light tasks and watching media, the wifi Tab 3 10.1 seems like great value @ R4400. I can;t find anything close to that price in 10inch....

I know it will be sluggish at times when I work it too hard and the screen will look apartheid compared to my S4, but I really enjoyed my experience with my Tab 1 10.1 and this has slightly improved spec's over that one.

Not worth it. Compared to your S4, you will hate this overpriced piece of junk. I've updated my 1st post with links, so that you can compare specs.

There are also cheaper but good quality Chinese brands that are better than the Tab 3. Check out the Ainol Novo 10: http://www.pricecheck.co.za/search/?search=ainol novo 10

Also, if you're willing to import, Amazon have the Nexus 10 16GB WiFi for $434, and the Xperia Tablet Z for $430. Add about R500 to that price for shipping, import duties, taxes, etc, and it is still well worth it.

I would love a Z but it is way more than I would be willing to spend (R6900 best price I could find on a non LTE). Problem for me with the Nexus 10 is the lack expansible storage (yes I store stuff on my tab).

I would love the LG G Pad 8.3. It fills most of my tick boxes. I just wish someone could bring it in cheaply.

Take a look at Google's Nexus 10 tablet on the Orange Store. It's got better specs & high-res screen, got great reviews, and is likely to receive the latest version of Android for some time yet. It's in the same price category too.

Nexus 10 is a bit limiting without an expansion slot. Better RAM and screen though :/

Here are some affordable tablet, if you can accept the 7-inch, check it out

As I have an S4, I feel getting a 7 inch tablet will not be a big enough increase size wise. Need 10 inch so ordered the Tab 3 10.1 wifi for R4400. It is now an average tablet but for the price, it will satisfy all my plex watching and web surfing. Nexus 10 is awesome but out of my price range.

You could have had a look at the Lenovo S6000, it has really good specs for R3400 and it has wifi and 3G. But the tab 3 is a good buy as well.
