I need some expits to help me out here. I sold my car today, so need to make a decision on the new car pretty soon. Faced with the following, which would you pick

  • 2024 Suzuki Fronx GLX, 25 000km. 1.5 NA. Comes with 4 year service plan. R304 500.
  • 2024 Haval Jolion City Plus, 30 000km. 1.5T. Comes with 7 year service plan. R304 500.
  • 2022 Mitsubishi Eclipse Cross GLS, 57 000km. 1.5T. Out of service plan. R284 500.
  • 2024 Mazda CX-3 Active, 15 000km. 2.0 NA. 3 year service plan. R295 000.

I would go Mazda if its in good shape. But we know nothing about how you use a car so not exactly knowledgeable recommendations.
Mostly city driving, and about 750km pm. Probably drive to another city (2-4hrs depending on the city) once a month.

The Suzuki will be great as a city runaround and light on fuel but those longer trips will be a pain overtaking safely.
The Mazda will be a bit heavier on the fuel but much better all round.

But, if this was for you, which would you buy?
Hmm that is more tough to answer.

Look I've been a vocal Mazda fan here & normally I would say the CX-3 but that platform & design is rather old now in late 2025 & actual space utilization is marginally better than the Mazda 2 (just a tad higher).

I mentioned in another thread at my impressions of my old man's box fresh "LIT" povo spec Tiggo 4 Pro, it feels & drives better than what it's price reflects. I just think the rear looks dated compared to the Tiggo Cross.

Not sure why you mentioned the Jolly-On & not the Tiggo 4 Pro

My top 3 would be:

- Tiggo 4 Pro
- Fronx GLX
- CX-3 but not the Active, the middle or higher tier

If I had to pick from that list, I'd take the Mazda.

The Haval with 7 years of no worries seems like a no brainer for the money, unless the spec is considerably worse over the others, I don’t know the City Plus or how it compares to the rest.

As above though what about a Tiggo?

I haven't even considered Cherry. Will have a look, thanks.

CX-3 higher specs are out of my price bracket.

If the Fronx is the automatic variant I would stay far away, the 4 speed auto can be incredibly annoying. You might be able to get the Tiggo Cross (the new Tiggo 4) in roughly the same price range, it's the newest of the lot and received a 4 star 2025 Euro NCAP rating.

That 7 year service plan is very appealing
