Which would you pick?

I mean, I get anything emotional.

Anything practical on a place like this makes sense, yes. The question of “Why?” still remains.

Maybe I enjoy my drugs more than you do, heh.

Nazoghe....
Umuntu dageeweh!!

So, I don't want to read everything. You listed some poor options and asked which one to select. Did you pick the deep blue sea, the rock, or the devil?.....or have sobriety clandestinely and/or unwittingly entwined your cerebral activities in the interim?

Rather get a Merc so I can pay R73k to replace the DPF?

R9k @ Steve's Auto Clinic to have it removed. But, you could also get a X3 2.0 d. 'Know, something decent and with status?

Just jesting in the spirit of the season.....stirring the pot. :X3: 😇:p

What did you get eventually? Mazda? Imho the best from your list, although it is one brand I've never owned. Bought my 34th car last month though.......repeat offender....2nd BM ever.

I got a Haval - not the one in OP though.

Had a quick look on cars.co.za - I could have gone for a 2016 X3 2.0d with 130 000km on the clock for the same price. Looking at that, I'm happy with my decision.

In case anyone did not know or care that the instrumentation aka gauge cluster of the povo spec Jolly-On models are far superior to the povo spec Chery Tiger (yes Tiger) 4 Pro models:

That Chery.....8.9 l/100km ......for a 1500cc. WOW. I'll catch a depro. I've not seen such thirst in a very long time, and even then it was from a engine double the size. So, is it true the Chinese cars are so heavy on fuel? I'm used to figures between 5 and at worst 6.5, but that is admittedly on my 2 liter diesels.

What would you recommend?

If you want to stir effectively, don't murder the English language....

Yeah they are unfortunately heavy on fuel.

Ive heard of people getting them tuned and getting much better fuel efficiency though.

I've been driving the wife's X-Trail this last week and that thing is way thirstier then the worst estimates of the Haval.

Yeah they are heavy on fuel as well, Nissan didn't do a fantastic job with that vehicle.

To be fair to the Chinese, their cars are heavy on fuel, but they aren't insane given how heavy the cars are and the engine sizes. They could be better, but they aren't as insane as they used to be.

This is the main thing that's putting me off these Chinese cars. Otherwise they seem real good value for money.

Which is actually very high for a diesel, but they will always offer far better fuel economy for being entirely different systems.

Diesel being more expensive at the moment it tends to level out again.

But that’s also not really thirsty at all for a car in this class.

Is it heavier than some others cars? Yes.

Is it actually heavy? Not really.

Is it completely out of whack for like for like comparisons? Not at all.

If anything I feel the Chinese cars are more in line with their real world expectation and don’t lie about it like the rest. I seem to remember they use a more realistic testing mechanism than the European cars.
