SuperSport siege incoming

While South African broadcasters are at each other's throats over the right to show high-profile sporting events, international video streaming services with much deeper pockets are waiting in the wings to join the battle.

That is the warning from veteran South African television journalist Thinus Ferreira, speaking on the ongoing feud between MultiChoice, eMedia, and the SABC about the sublicensing of sports rights.

So we're going to end up having to fork out a new subscription to a different streaming service every time we want to watch one of these tournaments? that's just great.
Yup that is precisely how it'll happen and it won't be cheap

Been saying this from the start.

DStv aint cheap if you want to watch just sport. However the alternative will be way more.

Dont touch my sport on its studio

Also been saying from the start entertainment will get more expensive, you'll just get to choose what you pay for at a time.

Are you okay Jan?

In my personal opinion, I don't believe that this will happen any time soon.

The costs for the regional rights are way too high and there is not enough add revenue to cover the gap between paid subscriptions and the add revenue.

But again, just my opinion.

Yep - DSTV/ SuperSport are their own worst enemy along with their sporting body buddies.

VIA 18 ( India ) already have CSA Cricket rights from CSA.

DSTV wipes their ass on advertising revenue.

When they cut the streams from 4 to one single stream, they kissed 75% of their streaming advertising revenue GOOD BYE.

This is the only bad thing they have done, oh and their shitty platform and streaming quality.

It can get more expensive, people, are already paying more than the comfortable with. So the price goes up, and you sell less, price goes up, and you sell even less. Wonderful.

How I wish Prime Video would acquire global streaming rights. I would be glad to have the NBA, MLB and ICC events for R79 per month.

Not all of us spend our lives sitting on a couch watching 20 channels of repeats and I would rather be more versatile and just pay for the sport I want. This is why streaming is already the present and the future.

Multichoice could save their company by simply offering rugby on Showmax but they seem to be too obstinate and too stubborn to adapt to change. Hopefully Canal Plus will be more open to the idea.
