Ya, I bought 1, when I ordered was 4 available. I only bought one as still hoping to somehow find a batch 22.
 
I got this one and opened it a while ago, but never posted any tasting notes...and normally I am too lazy to post tasting notes anyway.

But this is a Waterford and there has been much said about it's age, especially in Whisky circles here in SA. I love Waterford and have had some really good ones, but this one felt exposed by it's relatively young age.

It is just too young for it's complexity...or should I say attempt at complexity? Lots of green flavors here...some apricot on the nose but mostly green pineapple and apples, with the barley ever present of course.

But then that agave note on the nose...NOT my favorite profile in any Whisky.

Green notes go through on the palate with spiciness too, but again that agave note.

Finishes dry and spicy.

This one needs more ageing...definitely.

The guy expects auction prices...without wanting to pay the cost of actually getting it to auction.

Should just offer him R6k for all 3....

How old is that one?
 
I cracked this beauty yesterday. It may just be the best Octomore I have had.

As with all Octomore releases, the peat does not smack you in the face, but it’s a balanced experience. Much sweeter than I expected, the Tempranillo wine cask influence comes though.

What is the highest ABV Whisk(e)y currently available locally at the lowest retail price that you can think of?

Bain's Symphony 7YO 48.6% ABV R359.00 @ Makro

Under R600
Knob Creek Kentucky Straight Bourbon 50% ABV About R 550.00 at various places

Under R800
West Cork Cask Strength 62% ABV R 780.00 @ Bottega

Under R1000
Bain's 10 Shiraz cask finish, 63.5% ABV, R975 for 1litre @ JSD
Arran Quarter Cask 56.2% ABV R940.00 at WB

The highest ABV whisky I ever bought was the Smokehead High Voltage, 58% ABV, retail for about R1K last time I saw

O, and for under R400, I bought the TSW Virgin Oak, IIRC, which is also 48,6% ABV
