Whisk(e)y Lovers thread(II)

Does anyone know of a whiskey subscription service in RSA? Similar to - https://whisky-me.com

Where you subscribe and are sent samples every month?
I found a whisky group. I now have boxes of samples...I barely have anything on my 'I'd love to try wishlist' these days. Still a few oddities at whisky library in durbanville I have to try though.

Hi BartSimpson

Do you know where I could get a bottle or two of Whistle Pig for reasonable money?
Depends on your definition of "reasonable money"?

Thanks.

Highway bloody robbery - an 80 dollar whisky becomes 190 dollars.

The biggest part of the problem is the alcohol laws in the US. UK distributors have managed to navigate all the hoops so do seem to get a fair amount of stuff. As an individual it's impossible to get liquor shipped to you from the US. So you're getting taxed twice, paying for shipping twice, middle men fee etc. USA > UK > RSA.

Seems there is a new Ardbeg on the way, called "Fermutation". Available in the UK from the 1st of Feb.

Some interesting mixes.

Ooh, nice! Then you're in for the Ardcore at least.

I'm missing Feis Ile this year due to it being too close to my emigration date and next year is RWC France so other priorities prevail.
Arran is a personal favourite of mine so I'll make my way there. Ardbeg, Caol Ila, etc. is where you make your money to pay for the trip, by buying the limited releases and selling a year or two later for hugely more money. So we'll see how that goes!

Campbeltown usually has the rarer money spinners for me...Kilkerran and Springbank. But Ardbeg too for sure...

Did you read the back label descriptions for these - some of them or not what I would consider attributes desirable for whisky.

Ardbeg's 'taking the piss' is really now getting into top gear.
Indeed...marketers are making Whisky now....the same happened to wine in the late 90's.
I'll try and get sample somewhere...or go to a tasting, but doubt if I will be spending money on that.
