Whisk(e)y Lovers thread(II)

Opened some new stuff...and was blown away.

A masterpiece...lots of those sour berries I love in a Port finish. Oily mouthfeel and sweet peat.

Strong dark chocolate...prunes. Almost Christmas cake...but not quite.

Black tea on finish with the red wine flavors making it lean towards Rooibos.

Much better than the Sherry Cask.

Loving it!

Delicious. Soft, sweet heather peat.

I still smell and taste green apples. Honey and nuts.

Creamy mouthfeel...buttery.

Peat is absolutely fabulous. The smoke when you braai fish.

Soft sweet Highland peat...from the imported barley.

Chocolate and cherries....and then smoked ham...spareribs with BBQ sauce.

Strong coffee on long finish.

The smoke compliments...it doesn't dominate.

Balcones does it again!

That was my summary too. The sherry cask sits in my cupboard and it's not bad, but the port is a bit special.

I'm struggling to find Lagavulin in stores these days last 18 months, can anyone relate?
Having to resort to JW 12 (which is still pretty good, but not as good).

It's showing up more now. Checkers and Makro seem to be getting in a little. Now R1599 - R1799 though so making it a tough sell when you can get Kilchoman Loch Gorm for much the same price from specialists.

Never tried it, any good?

My 2c's...

There is a LOT of peated stuff out there that is better quality and at better prices than the current batches of Laga 16yo

I suggest bumming some samples from the members on this thread. If I was back home, I would've sent you at least 8 or 10 samples that would've swayed you.

I know you're Ron and represent Lagavulin in the US, but drink these other ones undercover.
