Some new South African Whiskies.

The Inventer

Single Cask Single Grain Whisky

It is made exclusively from premium quality South African maize. Once distilled, the spirit matured for a total of eight years in barrel. It spent three years in a first-fill ex-bourbon cask, then continued its journey in second and third-fill casks that rounded off this special whisky’s unique identity.

Im keen to try Macallan, my go to is generally a soft easy drinking whisky (Glenmorangie Original) any suggestions on which one to purchase.

Are the entry level ones worth it?

Benriach 12 Triple Cask.

Edit: Macallan is overrated, If you want to try something Macallan esque give Glendronach 12 a try but if you want a step up from Glenmorangie, Benriach 12 is where it is. Otherwise you should try the Glenmorangie Lasanta or Quinta Ruban both are very good.

Agree, give the Benriach 12 or Quinta Ruban a try.

Or even this. It's blended, but they say it has some Macallan and Highland Park in there.
Very delicious easy drinker. R349 at Norman Goodfellows. The Benriach 12 Triple Cask is so good as well.

Johnnie Blue seems to vary quite a bit and honestly you can convince people almost anything is JW blue if you pour it from the bottle. Sadly people fall for marketing/status. JW Black, Double Black and Green are the sweet spot for JW. Green is the most unique of those, black is the most like Cardhu and double black has a bit more complexity.

the cheapest one (12yo?)

no, imo none of the Macallans are "worth it" as they are almost all overrated, some of the rare casks are quite interesting, but if you're spending that kinda money and you like Glenmorangie I'd go for the Glenmorangie Signet over similarly priced Macallans any day

Ended up ordering a double Macallan 12 YO at my local pub the other day and my sentiment is yes its overrated.

Popped down to the local bottle store and picked up a bottle of this. Very very nice
