A wee bit of restocking

Even though I like the place, they are stupidly overpriced in my opinion. Granted they have a couple of rare drams there, but their prices for Springbank is just stupid.
All places put a 200% markup. 1/3 for cost, 1/3 for overhead, 1/3 for profit.

RRP on Springbank 10 Sherry wood is R2154(many are charging more), a dram at Whisky Library is R229. I think that's pretty reasonable given that he could have flipped that bottle for more. Springbank prices are pretty stupid, let's not blame Whisky Library for a global trend.

Edit: the SB 10 Sherry Wood is R229. That's a great price considering

RRP on Springbank 10 Sherry wood is R2154(many are charging more), a dram at Whisky Library is R289. I think that's pretty reasonable given that he could have flipped that bottle for more. Springbank prices are pretty stupid, let's not blame Whisky Library for a global trend.

I'm not blaming them for the stupid Springbank prices everwhere, but they are excessively expensive.

Let's take retail price ( when it was in stock of 17 year Sherry - My personal favourite ) at Whisky Brother. It's currently listed at 4k.

At their bar you can get a shot for R180. Now if we work with a standard bottle of 25 shots per bottle, their prices are way more affordable.

I disagree.

Firstly, they are not there to sell open bottles at the price of what a bottle cost. This is a business after all. You are paying for the experience especially tasting something that you would probably never buy for yourself.

The Springbank prices are very reasonable considering the crazy flipper pricing. TWL could have flipped the SB10PX for a huge profit, but instead opened it to share with everyone. So hats off to him.

PS their Springbank pricing:

10yo - R 89
10yo PX - R 229
12yo CS - R 149
15yo - R 179
18yo - R 269
21yo - R 400+/-

I don't think you know the meaning of excessive.

I personally think their pricing is more than fair and offers great value for money, considering the mark up some places charge for limited release whiskies.

I live 2km away from WhiskyBrother bar. I'm there almost every day, my closest Pick and Pay is in the same shopping center. Trust me, WB bar does not have stock of the SB 17 Sherry Wood, that link posted has not been updated for ages. They now have more than 1300 whiskies at the bar and most of them as not online.

If there was a SB 17 Sherry wood available, it would retail for a lot more than R4k. You can't judge the pricing of a bottle of whisky based upon when it was last in stock.

I never said I wanted the bottle to be sold at cost price. What is the price of the 10 Sherry?

It's my opinion, and I think it's excessive.

Thanks for that, I was there last year July and had a 17. I was not aware that the links are out of date, I stand corrected.

My apologies, I stand corrected. They still have stock at the web price. And it's lovely

Ooh! Nice, now I wish I was up there.

Ok, so my entire point stands then regarding pricing of Springbank :D

@Jitters @dualmeister
Sorry but your point is still flawed. This was released 6 to 7 years ago and it's priced at the going rate at that time. Let's compare apples, WB bar sells the WB 10 Sherry Cask more expensive than the current price at Whisky Library. Until you compare the same releases your point is moot.
