Whisk(e)y Lovers thread(II)

Sorry 3-4 bottles.
Now another question I know at some stage we were
Limited to import 3 items per year. Previously it use to be a value limit .20k per year before you needed a permit. Would 3 bottels counts as 3 items or 1order thus 1Item?
One shipment counts as 1 of your 3 imports for the year as far as i understand. As far as I know there is not bottle limit. But. there are others here that know a lot about importing.

I've imported more than 3 times a year from MoM and TWE, when I was still living in SA.

Just be ready for all those customs and other hidden costs. It's not pretty...

Yes you can import and as long as they don't ask for the importer's code you'll be fine. SAPO never asked for this, I would import dozens of packages each year and they never asked for a code. They only wanted cash for duty and VAT. Couriers cover themselves and will likely ask.

We're specifically talking spirits here, shipped via DHL...different fees, rules and duties apply.

No, you don’t have to register as an importer if you meet certain conditions.

Personal goods can be cleared with Customs under the generic code 70707070. However, you must meet the following conditions:
  • You are allowed only three transactions (of less than R50 000 each) during any calendar year;
  • You are only allowed to import goods for home consumption or personal use, not for resale or any other business;
  • You must be located in South Africa;
  • Your identity number/ Passport number or taxpayer reference number must be entered in the field provided in the declaration form.

As mentioned it is allowed and they deliver here, but the fees and import duties are heavy. Unless something really special prob not worth it

As you all know I love my whisky, wanna get someone a gift R300 max.

Was thinking Bains, Chivas, bushmills

Feeling Irish/Speyside vibes.

Any other recommendations?

Just thought I would post my laugh for the week. An unnamed greater Cape Town retailer. This was forwarded to me didn't take it myself

Those prices are a bit crazy.

12yo is R550.00 at Whisky Brother
18yo is R2499 at Dram Discovery
24yo is R4950 at Whisky Brother

Their stuff tastes like schit IMHO...
This was awesome though :love:

I think this is just new pricing given by the importer. Saw Old Pulteney 18 jump from 2300 to 2999 too. Not entirely sure if the 24 is the same reason but the 18yo definitely is.
Dram discovery is probably old stuff so was probably more marked up then this is compared to RRP at the time.
What's silly is that stock hadn't moved at all and was priced at R1499, I know because I was eyeing a bottle as I really like Ancnoc 18.
For those who don't know it's Liquor City Claremont. Honestly name the retailer, it helps those in the community. BTW I think mothercity liquor is far far worse as far as these pricing practices go.

Not sure whats going on with the 24s price but it cant be right its a £150 whisky. If you walk into the right shop with old stock you will get it in the R3600-R3800 range. New stock R5000. But 9k. On what planet
