Laphroaig 10 or quarter cast leaning towards quarter. Any thoughts.

I'd recommend the quarter cask, just a slight edge over the 10 in character, also higher abv if I remember correctly. Also, you're more likely to find the 10 to taste at a bar.

NGF are supposed to have stock of drum. I got to taste it at ardbeg day yesterday. I liked the drum, but I wasn't blown away.

I tried it out at WhiskyBrother and was not impressed. Decided I'd spend my R1250 on much more worthy whisky. I did taste 2 whiskies where I haven't opened the bottles, the Ben Nevis 19, I really didn't like it. The Fino Sherry gives it a funkyness that I really didn't enjoy, I'm probably going to look to swap it out for something I would enjoy more. I also tried the Signatory bottling of the Imperial 18 year old, I really liked that, probably going to open my bottle soon.

For the price you can get something like Corryvreckan so that's the real stumbling block for these special releases.

That said I really was surprised how much pineapple came through along with a slight rum undertone. It was certainly pleasant as marriages of peat and sweetness don't always work. I'm not sure it's worth the asking price but that leaves it open for true fans and collectors so it's not all bad. More rum and peat experiments would be cool!

And therein lies my problem. I have been collecting the Ardbeg annual releases for many years so am kind of forced to buy in order to keep up my collection. Minimum I buy each year is two.

How does it compare to Grooves ?...I pulled the trigger on both Grooves and Drum on Friday....

They are both very different expressions. I quite liked the grooves. The heavy charing may not be for everyone though.

Drum wasn't a bad dram, but I also didn't have that "oh wow" moment. I don't think you'll be sad about owning one. I got lucky and picked up a three ships 10 px cask limited release so that kinda killed my budget for impulse ardbeg purchases.
