Love Wild about whisky, live in Durbs so only get to Dullstroom once a year but their tastings are a must every year.

Now try Amrut....and Paul John unfortunately fades in comparison.

Will do thanks!

Support that - I got into Amrut a long time back and really liked it. Then JP came along and although others really liked it, I was the odd one out - was decent, but not close to Amrut.

As more people have now tried Amrut, they come to the conclusion as Quinn has put it, Amrut is so much better.

Initial thoughts on the Bains 10yo is buy it. The wine influence isn't over powering. If you have had the 15yo then you'll be in familiar territory. The cask finish adds a lovely sweetness layered over the caramel notes that I typically find in the 15yo. Hard to judge the gap in age statement when you have the 2 side by side. They 10yo punches well above its weight class. Another winner from Andy.

Edit: it swims well so don't be a afraid to add a few drops of water.
mine arrived today, long lost cousins reunited:

Impulse buy while at Tops. Apparently "technically" not a "Whisky" due to the chips. Aged in red wine barrels (Pinotage apparently) /gimmick.

Today’s impulse purchase. Not bad at all for R370.

The Four Roses single barrels are one of my favourites - for years I would mule it from the USA. In the last year or two, both WhiskyBrother and Bottega have had some - now sold out and I failed to replenish my stock. Quad has a bottle I am hoping he does not like so that I can buy it from him.
Bottega has stock again.

If you have any inkling of liking a bourbon, that Blanton's Gold is going to knock your socks off. It is one incredible whisky. Have it neat, and then if you like, water it down with a drop of chilled water (not ice). Sweet, rich and full. I'm completely in love with that whisky. I'd even say I like it more than I like most single malts these days. It just works for me, really really well.

Yup that's a backup bottle pretty good price at the moment from WaW, I also lean more towards bourbons and it's best bourbon I've had so far

I must mention that this was a surprise. Copper Republic Single Grain South African whisky. Was delicious but horribly overpriced at around R650 a bottle, especially considering they are up against Bains. I told them this. Stunning bottle.
It won Best South African Grain Whisky at the World Whiskies Awards 2020.

I searched a lot but can't find a complete list of entries. I wonder if there were more than two entries in the South African Grain Whisky category....

I see for the USA and Scotland they have Grain Whisky Category winner + Silver winners (not taking into account 21 YO and older category, or no age statement category). Do we know how they determine the winners? I'm curious if they have a Silver only if there were a certain number of entries, or does it have to score a certain amount of "points"?
