Had a dram of this couple months ago.
Excellent stuff

Checkers liquor got some good specials currently on:
Blue label - R1700
Lagavulin 16y - R850
Glenlivet 12y - R380
Singleton 12y - R310
I wonder whether these prices will get lower for Black Friday........

That lagavulin is a good price.

I was tipped at Whisky Live to stock up on lagavulin at that price, guy didn't say why.

Could be another shortage in the offing, I know they had one about 5 years or so ago.

Probably because it's been mostly around the R1000 mark and with our currency slide into oblivion it's doubtful you'll see it at that price again.

that too, but I'm still inclined towards a possible shortage given their history of shortages, also there's speculation that the 16yr old may disappear altogether

I would go for the Lagavulin and Glenlivet. Singleton Im not fond of and Blue Label is just for the name. :)

I agree.
I have the Singleton. Very bland and boring for me.
I had a taste of Lagavulin couple months ago and loved it.
Never tried Glenlivet tho

Very light and easy drinking, not a huge amount of flavour. Good for getting into drinking whisky neat. If you are going to be trying a few whiskys in an evening start with this one because you will lose all of the flavour if you have another one first.

Lagavulin all the way. Might use some of the ebucks to get a bottle of Coal Ila.

If Glenlivet and Glenfiddich are simple easy drinking scotches then I'd give it a pass.
I prefer the more flavourful ones, by that I mean smoke / peaty.
I never thought I would ever like these types but as my taste bud developed and I learned to appreciate the flavours, I began to enjoy them.
Will rather have black label as my everyday sip
