I kinda have to agree with MQ here. Bains used to be great but it somehow is not the same. If I had to compare the price point @R269 Bains aint exactly cheap A bottle of JW Black could be had for R280. The pvt Barrel 12 year old is going for R270. And I don't think Bains stands a chance against those. For my palette at least.

The loch lomond has really tickled my fancy. On world whiskey day, they had a few of the bottles available to taste. I tasted one of them and it was really good. But I didn't get the freakin name and now it is driving me insane which one it was ! All I know is it was on special for that day @ R229. I don't know what the regular price is.

The signature was on special for R229.

I like Bains, it's fine for an everyday drink, and if I may say with Coke if you friends really insist :o, but will try the No 68 and compare them.
Going to try and find the Single Grain Loch Lomond to try also if there are still any bottles left.

Did anybody else receive the info re. Ardbeg Kelpie that has become available in South Africa in very limited amounts?

Named after the kelpie, a legendary water demon said to live in the Atlantic Ocean, off the Islay coast, the new expression is the first Ardbeg whisky matured in Black Sea oak casks.

Sourced from the Adyghe Republic in Russia by Dr Bill Lumsden, Ardbeg’s director of distilling, whisky creation and whisky stocks, the casks are said to impart ‘incredibly deep flavours’ to the whisky, which is then married with traditional Ardbeg, aged in ex-Bourbon barrels. Nonchillfiltered and bottled at 46%.

Expect oily peat, dark chocolate, smoked fish, hints of seaweed, a peppery mouthfeel followed by treacle toffee.

See there is now where I have to respectfully disagree with you. It's the Internet so we are bound to disagree

I fall into the school of: "What is the best way of drinking whisky? Any bloody way you want!"

Look I'm not giving them some of my Ardbeg or Nikka or Glenliviet or Dalmore to mix with, that's why I have Jack Daniels, Jamenson, Johnny Walker and Grants.

Each to his own I say. We only live once so they can enjoy it like they want to, I'll drink mine like I like.

It was a tongue in disgusting coke filed cheek comment .

But its true, if you want to dip your knob in there everytime you take a sip because thats how you like it then you go ahead and do it, it just sounds weird as I have never tried it before and have never even heard of people drinking it that way.
