If you're drinking a highend/rare single malt, destroying the flavor with ice is a waste. You may as well drink a cheap blend.

Whiskey and Sprite Zero is rather nice. I ran out of Tab last night but had a full bottle of Sprite. I thought it was gonna taste horrible, but was rather nice. Will have it again.

That's what Klippies is for :D

To each his own but I find the smallest dash of water really opens up a nice single malt.

So called "releasing the serpent", a tiny drop of water can open up a malt although I'm not personally a fan it's perfectly acceptable - it's a far cry from ruining it with ice though.

I miss the days when I used to be able to partake... :(

I found this on Saturday.

Black Bottle's a great blend, it's the only blend out of Islay, or at least it used to be not sure about now. It's under the Bunnahabhain roof, and they've unfortunately decided to rebrand it and remove the peatyness.

The one in your pic is (fortunately) the old branding.

^Yep, I think I bought the last two bottles they had left. Massive fan of the old blend, meh about the new.

Yeah, anytime a brand relaunches or replaces their lineup it's about bottom line and not the quality of whisky. Here's looking at you Macallan.

Small bit of trivia, know where the name Monkey Shoulder comes from?

No but I do know :p

The term 'monkey shoulder' harks back to our whisky making heritage. It’s a reference to a condition that maltmen sometimes picked up while working long shifts, turning the barley by hand. It had a tendency to cause their arm to hang down a bit like a monkey’s, so they nicknamed it 'monkey shoulder'.

Aaaand... on the "not expensive" side of the scale... Hogs 3.

Those who enjoy their bourbon, please just give this at least one try.

This is a keeper in my books. Very, very underrated and quite rewarding... despite its price!

^What is the price? I'm willing to give anything a try.

R133 at Makro... under R170 ZAR elsewhere... but, I stand corrected if incorrect.

I am very, very pleasantly surprised.

I have Knob Creak here, Wild Turkey 101 and I still cannot understand how this is priced at its current retail value. I am not saying it is in the same league as the R500 - R700 bottled stuff, but for under R180 it is the best bang for buck that I have stumbled across.

If you are a bourbon tippler, give it a try, and report back here.

It would be great to hear others feedback and opinions on this.
