So I bought the Glenmorangie pioneer set. Come with a normal bottle of the original, tiney bottle of the Lasanta and tiny bottle of the Quinta Ruban. Also bought the Highland Park 12.

For my inexperienced tastebuds, the Glenmorangie original 10 wins it. Lovely sweetish, orangish taste.
The Lasanta and QR are nice too but prefer the original.
HP12 very similar to Glenmorangie 10. HP12 has a more creamy/oily taste. Still awesome.

BTW, I tried Vat69 and I almost died........

Managed to do just one tasting in Singapore of Japanese whiskeys. Very pricey, but then SIN is overall extremely expensive.

Very nice whiskeys, the Nikka from the Barrel was the gem of the tasting, absolutely amazing taste and packs a punch at 51%.

Received these in the post a few fays ago...

Opened up the Spey and its got an interesting flavour and texture to it. An *easy drinking whiskey* one might say. Haven't ventured to the other one yet

Anyone tried any of these?

So the last couple of days over this scorcher of a weekend, I slapped together something quite nice.

Took some Glenfiddich 12 (which I've really taken a liking to the last couple of weeks), probably about a double-shot, crushed it together with some ice to make a nice GF slushy, and added some fresh mint.

It went down surprisingly well! Obviously refreshing, the mint opened up the somewhat zesty drink quite nicely. I'll do it again!

I had some Highland Park the last couple of weeks in the UK, best I have tasted! Very smooth and easy to drink neat.

Then I also had some Laphroaig 10 YO, what a bunch of *** siesa!

I sampled some Laguvalin 16y at a friends house over the weekend.
I must say, it went down very nice.
Minimal bite.
A bit of a medicinal odour, but tastes really good.

Not very long ago Checkers Liquors started selling Jim Beam for R169.
I loved it! A bourbon very similar to uncle Jack but cheaper and better.

Well... it was cheaper.
3-4 months down the line and it now costs more than Jack.

I guess they noticed how much people loved it :P

Jim beam is decent.
Makro currently has the Jim beam white label for R190 and Jack daniels for R215

^Or Ardbeg or Lagavulin. In fact just scrap the whole of Islay.

:D

Johnny Walker Black with lots of ice...Always nice and refreshing.

I find my taste buds evolving when it comes to whiskey.
Previously I used to find stuff like Bells, JW red and Vat69 harsh.
Now I simply find them different and appreciate what goes into them.
