I'm no boffin, but I didn't really detect any major peatiness - nothing like a Talisker/Lagavulin, in any case.
Interesting...

Hakushu Reserve Bottling Note
From the Hakushu distillery in the foothills of Mount Kaikomagatake comes their Distiller's Reserve single malt whisky, a no-age-statement expression, that captures the smoky, herbaceous characteristics of their whiskies. Both lightly-peated and heavily-peated malts were used for this complex and deeply enjoyable whisky. One of two Spring 2014 release from Suntory.

So I bought this on a whim yesterday, and I must say that I am seriously impressed with it. My first bottle of Paul John, and while I have tried a few expressions at various tastings, I’ve never thought to spend any time with it. This expression has received some really good reviews and it lives up to them.

If you enjoy gentle, sweet peat with barley and cereal notes, a really nice mouth feel with a lingering finish of coffee and chocolate, you won’t be disappointed.

Hint: try following this up with a Three Ships 5 to see how good the Three Ships 5 really is (and around R400/bottle cheaper).

Quite an interesting marketing strategy for them.

Not an image or lifestyle I would want associated with my international brand, but hey ho...

She appeared in HyperDrive so maybe they cashing in on a bit of that fame(both parties)

I like the proudly South African vibe.

Much better things in SA to be proud about and be associated with....

But yes, maybe they're aiming for the US market next with the Hyperdrive and Charlize Theron connection.

I know someone who bought these when they were launched on kickstarter and he rates them very highly. I've never tried them since he's in CT and I'm in JHB.

I purchased a bottle of Jameson Select Reserve from PnP (R419). The taste difference between this and the normal Jameson (R299) was almost non existent. Was very disappointed.

Take a photo of what is currently in his collection that way we might figure out what he likes.

And budget?
