Not sure if true, but someone (reliable) said that it is a Bains 10yo, but for travel retail only.
Let's see......
travel retail only in covid times is not the smartest idea ... no travel = no retail

I'd love to buy some of the more interesting Bain's releases, hope they make it more available ... or maybe they're just holding out until I take the plunge and drop R1700 on the 18yr ones that are freely available

missing the important bit in that pic: international flights only, specifically traveling to/from ZA ... I guess my own experience is a bit anecdotal, but I've only seen the Bain's & Three Ships special releases in our own duty free shops

don't know if you'll easily find it in an EU airport

Dear Committee Member

If you haven’t already heard the news, Ardbeg has appointed a new Distillery Manager – Colin Gordon. We searched high and low, scouring the globe for the next person to step into my shoes. Turns out, he was right next door!

WE FOLLOWED OUR NOSE

Already an Islay resident, we found Colin just a few minutes down the road at another Islay Distillery, working as their Distillery Manager. The team welcomed him to Ardbeg at the start of October, so his boots are now well and truly under the table.

So far, he’s been busy getting to know everybody, as well as familairising himself with every nut, bolt, bottle and barrel at the Distillery. I’m sure at some point he’ll introduce himself to you properly, but for now, here’s a little insight into his life before Ardbeg...

THE MAN BEHIND THE WHISKY, BEHIND THE WALL

Colin fell in love with the whisky industry through his many summer jobs. But a few years back, when the opportunity arose to live and work on Islay, he and his wife, Rosie, jumped on a ferry and never looked back!

It goes without saying that Colin has excellent whisky-making credentials. But, there are a few things that marked him out as the perfect Ardbeg candidate.

An ex-rocker, he was once part of a grunge outfit called ‘Snail Bait’. They famously headlined a gig at the Killiecrankie Town Hall, with all of 25 adoring fans screaming his name!

Coming from good seafaring stock, Colin is well placed to take the helm of the good ship Ardbeg, as his dad, Captain Tom Gordon, headed up a diving vessel for 50 years.

Colin is also a proud father to a 20 year old pet tortoise, called ‘Bodach’ (Gaelic for ‘old man’). Before starting out in whisky, he had secret ambitions to become a vet and actually studied Zoology in Aberdeen. Well, I can assure him that Ardbeg is a whole different animal...

A NEW ERA AT ARDBEG

Even though we’ve been neighbours for a while, the time for chit-chat over the wall is long past. Ardbeg are lucky to have Colin on board and I can’t think of a more worthy successor.

With lots of new expressions in the pipeline, I look forward to enjoying the fruits of his labour for years to come.

Slàinte!

My cataloguing continues:

Such a huge fan of this distillery and it was interesting to hear that quite a few of my fellow CWC members do NOT agree OR approve...hehehe.

( I cannot wait to open that 10yo CS.... )

I agree with them, it "nice" drinking and goes down well but nothing special. This is in reference to the core range, I haven't had much of the special releases. I did have the PX Cask and found that under-whelming. I got a little of the 10yo CS which I need to try still.
