Am I missing something or are Japanese whiskies disproportionately overpriced?
It helps that we get choice brandy locally, too. The best I've ever had was a Backsberg Estate bottled sometime in the early 80s/late 70s. Still miffed that I opened it with company that just flattened the entire thing with Coke in record time.I think I better go back to Brandy. It was a lot cheaper
I made the mistake of joining the Friends of Bruichladdich group on Facebook. R5k seems like chump change these days.
Ardbeg sells out quicker but I'd wager Bruchladdies are more willing to cough up more per bottle.

Those Octomores on Bottega's list are between R1700 and R 2000 per bottle more expensive than MoM.
Only the Noah's Mill is good value.
Then makes sense to order there and pay delivery and duties I suppose. Still too pricey for me anyway haha

There are one or two on there that are must haves, so have pulled the trigger.
Noah's Mill - I used to spend lots of time and effort getting this and Four Roses Single Barrel muled into SA. I snagged a bottle on auction recently and have grabbed a bottle here too.
Connemara Distillers - always wanted to try this given favourable reviews. Extra 3% abv on distillers makes it a must.
Waterford Knockroe - all others have been brilliant, so hopefully this one too.
Compass Box Hedonism - cheapest price you will find this at.
Shipping, customs/excise, Vat , DHL clearance fees, all of these will get you close to Sav's prices. You might save on shipping and clearance fees if multiple bottles are ordered. All 3 Octomores are more or less around £145 on MoM.

Nope not really.
Octomore 11.3 will cost you R 4 100 landed at your door...and that is when just shipping 1 bottle.
From Bottega with their shipping incl. it will cost R 5 133,75
If you ship buy and ship all 3 of these Octomores from MoM, you save even more.

That's at the auction houses and the multiline entry charges are included in DHL's Early Clearance Fee of R250.Don't forget credit card and multiline entry charges
MoM does not charge extra for using a CC.
I included that DHL fee in my calculation.

Mine is the Three Ships Private Barrel 7yo @ 63.8%This one. In fact, I bought this purely for the ABV
Also have some Balcones at 65.7%, but that is a sample.
