Nice, can see you haven't opened it but is the WB Buffalo Trace noticeably different to the standard release?

It's not noticeably different and I won't be buying another bottle. Normal BT is fine.

Financial literacy is not my strong point :p

I never knew that!

I just sourced and bought a 21 year old Parliament yesterday (2021 so it's apparently 26 years old). That was R2600. I really want to have a higher strength Glendronach but that price is a little bit too high. I'd rather take that money and put it toward the 1991, 30 year old release coming this/next month.

I'll keep an eye out for the Paul John. It's a name I've been wanting to try but was initially put off due to some reviews out there. Looking back, they seemingly are more "Indian isn't whisky" snobbery.

I opened the Adelphi 25yo Armagnac last night. It's clearly better than most cognac I've tried but I'm still leaning toward local brandy as being my favourite. That "grapey influence" you mentioned is really strong here so I think it will need to air a bit to get all of the other flavours. I'm far from patriotic but we do it better. I just wish KWV released higher ABVs because their 12 year olds released in 2012 and 2015 were beauties.

Where does he go from here?

I can see him "reviving" a distillery but I can also see him going the Jim McEwan route and just retiring. He is an exceptional craftsman, no doubt, but how well known is he in the world? That's a genuine question, btw, not a dig at all.

Is this you that didn't like the 21(26) year old much?

Ranked:
15 Revival

2008 PX Puncheon (would be an untouchable sherry beast at 16 years I reckon)

18 Allardice

21 Parliament

Next tasting for the Friday Whisky Mafia set to go - Compass Box: The Peated Edition. This one has been waiting to go since early this year, and thanks to a kind friend, we managed to land No Name 3 locally nice and quick. Date now set and Jill Boyd (Compass Box Whiskymaker and all round whisky fan) has kindly agreed to guide us through this one.

Oh man, a whisky tasting hosted by Jill Boyd is a whisky bucket list.

Collecting expensive whisky isn't my thing, just gimme a bottle of Jamesons in the freezer & I'm in heaven, so I'm just going to drop this here and leave..

For you that is peanuts
Goes to see how much Brandy I can get for that rather.
Not at all what I said or implied...

I said that I think R 1700 for an 18yo is cheap if compared to other 18yo's that I have seen. But I may be wrong, of course.

Do you havfe a link? Trying to figure out JSD online shopping is a nightmare tbh
