He popped round for a quick beer, Whisky and Rum session today...

Made him jealous for a change...

The GlenAllachie was a bit hot for the age and flavors. Not as impressive as everybody made it out to be...not balanced at all.

Could this be fake?

I found this bottle at Takealot, but cannot find it anywhere else on the internet. I have even checked the OG website. The closest I get is Samuel Gelson's Blended Irish Whiskey.

I do not think it is fake.

The bottom one is not for the SA market i.e. 700ml / 40% ABV is not allowed to be sold in SA.

The top one is OK to sell in SA, It is possible they took a bit of a liberty (marketing department) with the label when redoing the packaging. As long as they don't state it is a Single Malt (which I see they also do).

The Takealot description also states that it is a blend.

They have more liberty with labelling in SA. Why advertise it's a blend when you can get away with people's presumptions of it being "superior"** to what it really is?

**not my opinion

If you look at the rest of their range this is the entry level offering so set expectations accordingly.

SA minimum abv requirement for whisky is 43% so we always get a bit more kick than Europe.

Is this legit 7 years old or artificially aged like the name suggests? The original Bains is 5 years so it's not a leap.

Interesting theory

Really, assume they releasing in batchesView attachment 1161612

Tasted some this evening. Price aside for a moment. Really tasty. Well balanced. Lots of Christmas cakes notes. The 15yo DNA is still in there. Certainly well worth trying before you decide to commit to a bottle.

Price back on the table. Lots of other things you could buy for R3k. It is 1l so keep that in mind. It's a lovely dram but I'm on the fence value wize. Happy to have gone in on a bottle share with 3 friends. That's probably where it will stay for me.

R399 is a steal of a price for this. A lot of 10 year olds feel underdeveloped but this hits a good midground. I'm not sure there's a lot better at this price point.

Thanks for the info, will have to try it at the distillery next time.
