And:

http://www.labour.gov.za/documents/...ission-for-employment-equity-report-2010-2011

------------------------------------------

Whites still occupy 73.6% of top management positions in the country, the Commission of Employment Equity has reported.

According to the commission’s 11th yearly report that was released in Pretoria, blacks made up 12.7% of top management, while Indians made up 6.8% and coloureds constituted 4.6%.

Labour Minister Mildred Oliphant said she was disappointed at the slow pace of reform at top management.

------------------------------------------

It is a disappointment, but even more disappointing is the fact with the last 17 years during the total failure of the education system, it will be even longer for young blacks to be promoted.

And why is this only for private companies? If you include the government, methinks the statistics will point another picture entirely...

I fully agree and think that it is intentionally reported as such.

They like to benchmark their salaries against the private sector but refuse to include them in the management stats!

They'll just say that this is due to the private sector not pulling their weight with regards to transformation, which is why they have to take up the slack. Politicking is a game to them...

Its the same in most countries

The "Fortune 500" is a list of the 500 largest companies in the United States. Only 10 black executives have ever made it to the Chairman or CEO position of a "Fortune 500" listed company. Of these 10 executives, only 6 remained as of April 1, 2011. Franklin Raines became the first black person to lead a "Fortune 500" company, when he became CEO of Fannie Mae in 1999. On July 1, 2009, Ursula Burns became the first black woman to head a Fortune 500 company.

I don't think comparing SA to the US is a valid comparison

100% agree that those statistics are unacceptable- to right it, blacks should step out and start forming more companies- With the opportunities that abound for black business, they could get into any sector and make a fortune. and it would do wonders for our economy

Thats the normal process in most other countries anyway- hard work sacrifice and a keen eye.

Im am so thoroughly sick and tired of hearing this -
Step 1) Start you own company
Step 2) You are in management
am i missing something?

You are correct.

Resign from para-statal or public service due to lack of promotion opportunities.
Start you own business.
ergo - you not not BEE compliant.

I agree with your comment. But there are some commen ground between us and the US there is also affirmitive action and they also come from a racially devided sociaty

THIS:

Stop riding people backs and actually uplift them then maybe the picture changes.
But then problem of less voting for ruling party, because now people smart and less dependant.
Solution keep people dumb and divided.

A friend - an experienced businessman - was looking for BEE partners in a new business.

The catch was that that they had to be genuine, i.e. like the others they had to pay for their shareholding up front and were expected to work (on a day-to-day basis) for the company as it got off the ground.

After several months of fruitless search he gave up ... :(

still a big difference between a country that only has 12.6% black population and 72.4% white vs. one that has 79.5% black and less than 9% white

I do think it is changing tho - one does not step into a management position at a big existing company.
Those are positions where you sometimes literally have to wait for the previous person to retire before you can get the job.
That can take 20+ years - i think the picture should change significantly over the next 10 years (that is just simply the time it takes for changes at senior management positions to happen)

If this was just private companies with more than 50 people employed - what about all the government / provincial departments, SOE's and municipalities - were they included, or excluded?
