Whites dominate top management

It really comes down to poor education, Id hazard to say the majority of black managers come from private schools.

And the the rather obvious reason that many of these companies are family businesses, and only family get directorships. (It also ignores the fact that many of these companies have for many years employing and training people.) They're not "White" management they're "Family" management.

I have serious issues with this notion that empowerment must mean black management. Empowerment is is money in the pocket and these "evil" companies are doing a far better job than government in that respect.

WRT family businesses I don't think it really matters unless the business goes to extra lengths to hire only one skin colour and that would be racist irrespective of colour.

Poor schooling ensures the masses NEVER have the ability to make their own decisions.
The ruling partying will deviously persuade or threaten voters to vote for them. This is nothing new as its common practice in our neighboring countries.

Why build up anything when you can take it?
Why invest anytime and effort is someone is going to take it from you?

Those who have it in them to build up/improve/discover will always rise above and succeed in business and life.

Whites still occupy 73.6% of top management positions in the country, the Commission of Employment Equity has reported.

I'm reading an article on an analysis of the 2006 matric results again, I notice that in the summary, they highlight the fact that black and coloured education was of a dismal standard during apartheid, yet Indians who were also equally subjected to apartheid, are excluded from this analysis.

What is certain, is that the quality of black (and Coloured) education is nowhere near what it should have been. After 1994 spending on pupils was fully equalised, the political disruption of schooling ended, and schools integrated.

Most of the obstacles to improving school education had been removed, all that was needed were the right policies and good administrators.

The ANC cannot really blame anyone else for this failure. Not only has it determined policy since 1994, but its activists took over the running of the Education department shortly thereafter, and the largest teaching union - SADTU - is aligned to the ruling party.

I am confident that when the matric and matric exemption results start improving, that we will see it reflected in top management positions down the line.

Parents and learners and teachers across South Africa must put shoulder to the wheel, we are falling far behind other developing countries with regards to technical skills and higher education.

Improve the primary education system, give learners a solid and profound foundation and stop messing around with higher education !

The results will not improve until we get rid of these ridiculous pass rates that are currently required. We're breeding a nation of retards.

+1

Though saying that, there needs to be more technical colleges and more emphasis on training artisans rather than forcing the non-Academic through.

Exactly what I've been saying, not forgetting everyone that gains from this situation will never do away with splitting up everything with racial lines: white this, black that. etc etc etc.

The whole thing is a crock

Companies below a certain threshhold do not need to submit returns. There are many companies being run very successfully by people of all colours that just don't feature in the meaningless stats.

It also takes time to obtain experience, despite the fact that there are numerous graduates of all races out there, major companies like to look at a proven track record and that takes time to develop. You cannot obtain experience together with the degree!

Another thing is, like others have mentioned here - only a sample of companies have been taken, and all companies under 50 employees have been excluded.

But the ANC's "let's divide the pie" mentality still rules here, instead of "let's increase the size of the pie", as it should be...

Why? To increase the size, they would need to create jobs, minimize bureaucracy and stop corruption – and we all know just how good they’ve been at doing that!

So in effect, this report is just another “Melama” – a smokescreen to divert everyone’s attention from the real problem!

This report is lacking on so many levels… Let’s start – if you ask a barber if you need a haircut, the answer would always be yes. So if you ask an EE committee if the % representation of races in the work place is correct, what will the answer be? Especially if the committee itself has been over-transformed?

The reporting methodology is suspect – it only takes a sample of companies – those with over 50 employees. All companies under 50 employees have been excluded.

Many company started in the last few years might not have expanded over 10-49 people, so they don’t count? And many older companies (started pre-94) could still have the make-up of the country at that time, and only by people getting fired, retrenched, retiring, quitting or simply dying do their positions get advertised and perhaps filled. But in today’s uncertain economic times, do you really want to hire someone? Especially with the labour laws making it VERY difficult to get rid of them? Especially someone of the PDI group, that must be poached at a premium?

The easiest way to fix the problem? If you take top management to mean MD or CEO, all that means is the government must help or start around 25 795 businesses? I mean, how difficult can that be? They have had 17 years to practice getting capitalism right – the all certainly look like successful capitalists!

And if they roll out the punitive fines, all it will do is increase window dressing and fronting… Rather help businesses to grow, find local or export opportunities, but instead they will punish the tax-paying businesses… I wonder how long they will continue to operate and pay taxes after paying a % of their turnover?

You can't really reform top management since those are the people who normally build the business from the ground up.

people work for that positions now they must be fired and their positions given away because they the wrong colour, when are people in SA gonna get over the colour thing, we are all equal but we need more blacks in higher positions... BS man....

What ignorance:rolleyes:

And:

http://www.labour.gov.za/documents/...ission-for-employment-equity-report-2010-2011

------------------------------------------

Whites still occupy 73.6% of top management positions in the country, the Commission of Employment Equity has reported.

According to the commission’s 11th yearly report that was released in Pretoria, blacks made up 12.7% of top management, while Indians made up 6.8% and coloureds constituted 4.6%.

Labour Minister Mildred Oliphant said she was disappointed at the slow pace of reform at top management.

- SAPA

------------------------------------------

It is a disappointment, but even more disappointing is the fact with the last 17 years during the total failure of the education system, it will be even longer for young blacks to be promoted.

And why is this only for private companies? If you include the government, methinks the statistics will point another picture entirely...

HOLY SHlT ROBIN!

This is retarded. You only get to be top manage ment in 90% of the cases AFTER about 20-25 years of experience and work... so no wonder....

Pisses me off when the parameters etc etc are not set properly.

Another reason the older white/coloured/indian folk in top management cling to their jobs – they know all too well if they leave it, then it’s tickets for them – they will not easily find a job in SA’s EE and AA culture again. And starting your own business at age 55-65 with only your pension money? It’s too risky, so they rather just retire and hope not to become a statistic before they die…

What kind of live is that? Not one I want for me or my kids…

Why don’t government catch a wake-up and engage the top managers in this country to help train the next generation?

Coz it’s easier to destroy than build. Easier to make a target of a minority, then to own up on the failures of the majority.

One of these days, when businesses start disinvesting from SA for less risky opportunities up north in Africa, and government has to rein in spending, they will not be able to cut the grants. Instead they will run massive overdrafts, and when it all collapses, who will get the fault? Everyone but the ANC/majority. So the unemployed masses will, like in all revolutions before this one, take what they want and won’t take no for an answer…

And the only way out of this is if the people of SA sees the ruling party for what it is – a corrupt kleptocracy.

And hopefully the straw that will break the proverbial camel’s back will be Malema’s trust fund / corruption expose, Zuma’s fall from grace, and the Armsdeal & widespread corruption revelations. All hopefully before the next election…

Because if the current situation in SA (massive unemployment & corruption & lack of education) is not resolved peacefully, it will be resolved by force, a la French Revolution…

The margin is way way too wide, this is why people will always complain about equality. There is no running away from it whether you like or not. The Government needs to definitively fix this so that the minority groups get a bigger piece of the pie, plain and simple.

Something has to give and as I always say, this means someone has to win and someone has to lose.
